Beautiful Braids | 3 bridal braids we love
Braids and plaits are everywhere at the moment. The options are truly endless but here are three styles that we love which would look beautiful at a wedding.
The Halo Braid
It’s hard not to fall in love with a halo braid, whether it’s for your wedding day, engagement party or perhaps just a night out. The main feature of this pretty style is the halo or crown braid perfectly encircles the crown of the head and shapes the face. You may have noticed that this style has been very popular on red carpets and fashion runways of late and it is a look that is feminine and ethereal (Greek Goddesses comes to mind!).
The crown braid does require long hair but if you’re keen, you can also incorporate hair extensions to recreate the look. The key is looking for extensions that match your hair colour and texture so the style looks natural and fabulous. The halo braid can be worn sleek or strategically messed up to create more of a relaxed or bohemian feel. Effortless chic!
A halo braid can be worn with or without a flower crown and it can work beautifully with a veil or with beautiful accessories like sporadic flowers or ribbon.
Milkmaid braids are a similar braid to the halo braid but are created by parting the hair down the middle, plaiting the two sides of the hair and wrapping the plaits around the crown of the head. The look is young, modern and sleek and is also the hairstyle that Naeem Khan selected for all of his models showcasing his debut Bridal Collection. I’m a huge fan of these milkmaid braids – Alexa Chung looks adorable – and I can see this style being popular amongst bridesmaids for a country or barn wedding.
Fishtail braids are created with four sections of hair, rather than three, creating the look of a fishtail. It is a braiding style that is modern and is very popular with bohemian brides wanting a textured bridal hairstyle. This braid also requires long hair but looks amazing as a side braid.
I remember struggling with fishtail braids when I was young but here’s a fabulous video from Lauren Conrad that makes it look super easy. Her hair is amazingly thick but she provides some great tips through the tutorial.
