An Evening in Florence

Blush wedding headpieces are some of our biggest obsessions.  We feel these romantic hues are more than just a trend and it’s fair to say these inviting tones will be around for many years to come.

Here in the studio, blush tones immediately conjure up visions of ombre skies at sunset and the radiant beauty of afternoon light on delicate foliage.  Our love for soft pink lies in its characteristic light peachy tones – paler than antique pink and lighter and creamier than nude.  Blush tones have a warmth that looks beautiful with antique silver, gold and ivory accents alike. Whether you have blonde, brunette or black hair, this sunset hue is the perfect accompaniment.

If you’re looking to capture a mood of effortless romanticism and femininity on your wedding day, this exquisite tone will captivate and inspire.  Not just for lace or flowing wedding gowns, style it with illusion necklines or modern sheer panels. Depending on the finer details of your dress or veil, blush tones pair beautifully with both crystal and pearl elements.

Scroll down to discover nine of our favourite blush wedding headpieces we know you’ll love.

1. CHERRY BLOSSOM set

This dreamy palette of soft champagne, pale gold and blush tones was inspired by the softness of light upon delicate cherry blossoms. The CHERRY BLOSSOM set is floral display bursting with overgrown details that feels feminine, fresh and utterly romantic.

The ombre blush tones are harmoniously balanced by the soft champagne detailing, creating a soft feminine look like no other.

The set can be scattered along half up hairstyles or nestled along the curve or side of a romantic wedding updo. Style them closely in a row or space them out for a look that’s artistically ethereal.

The CHERRY BLOSSOM set can be worn with a sleek minimalist veil such as our AUDREY chapel veil. If you wish to style the pins to the side of an updo, CHERRY BLOSSOM can be easily worn with a traditional wedding veil.

2. ROSALIE blush wedding headpiece

There’s a certain magic at play at half dusk. And the warmth and nostalgia of an enchanted ombre sky inspired the ROSALIE headpiece. Designed for a woman drawn to pale rose tints and raw romanticism, ROSALIE is opulent and decadent in its detailing.

Style this with

The ROSALIE headpiece is a statement piece that complements both traditional and non-traditional bridal looks. We love to style it with vintage-inspired wedding dress, low backs, blush pink wedding dresses, illusion necklines or long lace sleeves.

Flexible and versatile – the design allows you to manipulate the shape to suit your bridal hairstyle. Wear it in a half up/half down hairstyle to frame a veil’s comb, or position it above a bun for a classic and sophisticated look that’s feminine on all levels. If you’re envisaging a high set bun, ROSALIE can be curved to frame the bun beautifully and set on top of a wedding veil.

4. WHISPER floral hair pins

Feminine and whimsical, the WHISPER floral hair pins are enchanting and full of exquisite details. The flowers in various stages of bloom were inspired by the beauty of wildflowers and the carefree styling of freshly picked flowers woven into loose hair.

These precious handcrafted flowers are available in blush, ivory, ombre (ivory and blush combined), white or champagne tones and are perfect to scatter across a romantic updo or half up hairstyle.

Style this with

The WHISPER pins can be styled in a row to create a floral cluster at the top of a bridal updo. For a whimsical look, scatter them to the side of a romantic chignon or to the side of a side swept hairstyle. They can even be styled with other headpieces for a more organic vibe – think the APPLE BLOSSOM, JASMINE or LE POEME styles.

WHISPER can be worn with a veil – we recommend a drop veil with minimal or no gathers at the comb for a more seamless finish. Heavy gathers at the top of a veil can take away from the delicate nature of this feminine set.

Finding the right bridal accessories is more than just matching details to your dress. The right bridal headpiece will accentuate your finer features and bring together your bridal look in a way that feels effortless and polished.

There’s a bridal headpiece to suit every face shape from regal wedding crowns, delicate halos to more traditional wedding combs. It’s easy to fall in love with an exquisite headpiece or veil but what if it doesn’t flatter your face shape?  Our accessories collections are all designed and handcrafted in-house so we can modify our designs to suit you.  Feel free to email us photographs of your face and your wedding dress if you would like styling advice before you submit your order.

Styling tip:

Consider your bridal hairstyle before you choose your bridal headpiece.  Your wedding hair will most likely be different to your everyday hair. Often wedding day hair features more volume and texture so take this account when choosing your headpiece.

Determine your face shape

Most people fall into the following face shapes – oval, heart, round, long, square and triangle. Browse through our style icons to see what shape you are and the bridal headpieces that best suit you.

1. OVAL

If your jaw is slightly narrower than your temples, then you’re an oval. Think Jessica Biel, Kate Middleton or Kim Kardashian. Ovals are one of the most versatile face shapes of all which means you can literally pull off any look from the modern french knot to long loose waves.

Credits: 1. via Elle | 2. via Pinterest | 3. via PopSugar

If you’re oval shaped, finding a headpiece is relatively easy – most pieces and bridal hairstyles will suit your face shape. Take your pick from an opulent wedding crown or tiara, statement drop earrings or a headpiece positioned to the back of your head.

FLEUR crown
A simple yet high impact piece, the Henri beaded bridal crown is designed for sophisticated brides and modern romantics.

LYRIC headpiece
A backwards facing headpiece suits all face shapes. The Lyric’s ivory pearls and silver crystal details are all artfully arranged into an untamed silhouette. The epitome of organic bridal styling.

CARMEN veil
Unashamedly feminine and ethereal, the Carmen juliet cap veil frames the face and hair. A must for a classically chic and style-focused bride.

2. HEART

A heart shaped face is one that is wider at the temples and hairline, with the focal point at your chin. Katie Holmes, Zendaya, Miranda Kerr and Reese Witherspoon are perfect examples of heart shaped faces.

Credits: 1. Pop Sugar | 2. via Pinterest | 3. via Pinterest | 4. via Pinterest

A bridal headpiece for a heart should draw attention to your eyes and cheekbones.

Position the piece above your ear or along your hairline. If you have a fringe, position the piece near your temple to accentuate your cheekbones.

Crowns and traditional headbands are just made for hearts, while a veil secured at the top of the head will elongate your face.

FLORES crown
A luxurious and delicate statement piece that exudes the beauty of the botanicals in all its crowning glory.

HENRI crown
The perfect accompaniment to modern and chic bridal gowns and ethereal dresses of sheer silks and tulle. The characteristic spikes of the Henri feels edgy and modern.

REINA crown
Designed for the fashion forward bride, the Reina crown evokes effortless romance with feminine appeal with its striking silhouette and decadent details.

3. ROUND

A round shape is full with a rounded chin and hair-line as seen with Emma Stone, Kirsten Dunst and Cameron Diaz.

1. via Style Bistro | 2. via Pinterest | 3. via Pinterest

If you’re a round, your goal is to create less volume around the face by finding a bridal headpiece that will help make your face appear longer.

Avoid a piece with too much fullness at the sides – so a large flower behind your ear probably isn’t the best option. Instead, a wide headband or a crystal comb positioned to the side above the ear can soften the lines and will draw attention to your eyes. If you have a petite round face, choose a thinner headband or a dainty tiara.

A veil positioned at the top of the head will elongate your face. Choose a veil with gathering at the comb to create volume and height.

LAYLA headpiece
Inspired by the antiquity of yesteryear and the beauty of wild roses, this headpiece is bold, romantic with a touch of bohemian luxe.

TEMPEST crown
This delicate crown is captivating with its ornate design and timeless beauty, featuring a scattering of freshwater pearls and shimmering crystal beads.

RUBEN headband
A versatile headband that suits a wide range of face shapes, the Ruben feels classic and elegant with its simple silhouette and botanical details.

4. LONG

If the length of your face is around twice the width, then you’re long or oblong. Sarah Jessica Parker and Gisele Bundchen are excellent examples.

1. via Style Bistro | 2. via Pinterest | 3. via Pinterest

The perfect headpiece for you is one that doesn’t lengthen the face but instead adds width.

The way to add width and draw attention to your cheekbones is with a headpiece that can be worn amongst loose waves.

If you love veils, find one that doesn’t add height to the top of your head but something that will add width around your face. A Juliet cap veil such as our CARMEN veil will add intrigue and mystery, while broadening your face. A veil draped simply over the entire face also work beautifully, as well a veil attached at the back.

IRIS comb
The Iris features structural blooms and bud-like florals set amongst delicate pearls. These details create a beautiful focal point in the side of the hair without taking away from the beauty of a wedding dress..

ARTEMIS comb
The Artemis crystal hair comb is a subtle and feminine vintage-inspired piece, drawing inspiration from times past for a touch of nostalgic glamour.

WILDERMERE headpiece
A scrolling semi halo with intricate florals and beaded details, the Wildermere headpiece can be styled in half up hairstyles, romantic updos or loose curls.

5. SQUARE

A square face shape features a straight forehead and a straight line from the forehead to the jaw. Often this jaw is quite angular and is slightly wider than your temples and hairline.

If you’re looking for square faces in the celebrity world, look no further than Kylie Jenner, Selena Gomez, Jennifer Aniston or Keira Knightley.

1. via Harpers Bazaar | 2. via Pinterest

When looking for an accessory or bridal hairstyle, your goal is to play down your angular jaw. Team up a headpiece with tousled curls and a striking side part.

Choose a headpiece that you can wear near the temple to add length while creating a modern asymmetrical detail to soften the lines. Avoid anything near your ears or anything large directly up top.

Wide headbands are a perfect way to create a round line and balance out your face.

Squares, like longs, are made for birdcage veils. They draw attention to your temples while softening and rounding out your features overall.

ROSEBURY crown
Golden vines entwine to create the Rosebury crystal wedding crown, a wild and whimsical bridal headpiece for a sophisticated and modern bride seeking a high impact finish to her wedding day look.

SONNET crown
Epitomising modern luxury, the Sonnet is handcrafted from tiny pearl details and floral elements in a soft shade of silver and ivory.

AGNES crown
For a look with a nod to antiquity, the Agnes crown  flatters a wide range of bridal looks inspired by yesteryear.

6. TRIANGLE

A triangle face is one with a dominant jaw line that narrows at the cheekbone and temples (aka Victoria Beckham and Kelly Osbourne). You’re also very unique. A triangle face shape is actually quite rare!

 Victoria Beckham via Pinterest

Your goal is the opposite of a heart shape – you are looking to narrow your chin and widen your forehead.

You will need a headpiece that you can wear near the temple to draw attention away from your chin. Instead focus on your eyes and forehead.

A veil, secured with a headband, will not only round out your features, it’ll add allure and grace to your overall look.

CLARABEL headpiece
A beautifully balanced bridal tiara with classic appeal, the Clarabel is graceful and effortlessly elegant.

TROUSSEAU comb
The Trousseau comb creates a mood of refined elegance. Featuring textural layers and muted metallic tones, old world charm has been redefined in this compact piece.

ROSA hair flowers
These ethereal and feminine hair flowers are all sorts of wonderful. Simple in design yet bursting with romantic appeal, the Rosa pins capture the essence of a classic bridal look.

If you aren’t sure, play it safe. Choose a wedding headpiece and wear it nestled into a bun at the back of your hair. Your guests will be admiring you as your walk down that aisle so don’t be afraid to add an extra point of interest from behind.

Smaller is sometimes more appropriate depending on the look you’d like to achieve.  A delicate piece can feel more balanced and proportional when paired with a simple sheath gown or a heavily embellished wedding dress.

If versatility with styling is on your wish list, smaller pins can be rearranged into a row or scattered around an updo for a look that’s effortless and romantic.

One of our favourite wedding looks is layering a wedding veil with a headpiece.  It’s a modern take on the traditional bridal comb or hair pins nestled into the side of a bun. It’s sophisticated and chic, and creates a mood of regality without wearing a tiara or crown.

A bridal headpiece is a great option for brides wanting to add a statement piece to their hair. They are decadent in detail, serve a function of framing your hairstyle and/or wedding veil, and creates a beautiful focal point from behind as you walk down the aisle.

How to layer your wedding veil and headpiece

When this look is styled correctly, it is simply breathtaking. Unfortunately, not all combs and veils can be styled together. The size of your headpiece and veil are important, as are the attachments on each piece.  We have designed many styles in our headpiece collection to achieve this look which, over the years, has become the signature look of our brand.

If there’s a piece from a collection you love but you aren’t sure if it will work with a veil, get in touch. We’d love to offer advice and recommendations.

To achieve the layered look, it’s important to think proportions, spacing and your hairstyle. The goal is to create a look where the headpiece and veil appear as one and pair seamlessly together.

Here are our tips to create a picture perfect headpiece and veil layered look.

Shop this look: ENCHANTED headpiece + WYNTER veil

It's all about the proportions

When choosing your bridal comb, consider its proportion relative to your veil comb. You’ll be positioning them next to each other so size is important. The body of your bridal headpiece should be wider (longer) than the width of your veil comb.  So if your veil’s comb is 3 inches long, your headpiece needs to be at least 4-5 inches long.

  • Extra wide veil comb? A veil comb that’s 4-4.5 inches or wider is best styled with a longer and narrow comb.  Delicate hair pins will appear disproportionate and too busy in the hair.
  • Plastic veil comb? Consider the thickness of the veil comb itself, particularly ones that are attached to thick plastic combs with a lot of tulle wrapping.  These veils are hard to work with because they appear heavy and chunky in the hair. We avoid plastic combs across our collections and we only use fine metal hair combs as they’re stronger, sturdy, flexible and lightweight.
  • Love a fuller veil with lots of volume?  Ensure your headpiece is wide enough to cover the veil comb. The VERSE comb is a smaller comb that pairs perfectly with a fuller AMORA wedding veil. At just over 5.5 inches wide, the VERSE is perfect to cover a wedding veil comb that’s up to 4 inches wide.
  • If you prefer a sheer wedding veil, a drop veil like our ROSELLA chapel veil or BLAIR fingertip veil will sit flat against the head and will ensure your bridal comb will sit flush against it.

Step 1: Secure your veil

The more accessories you have in your hair, the greater the base that is needed to support them. We suggest the layered look is best suited for an updo, but a half-up half-down or even loose wavy hairstyles can be achieved using a few simple techniques to secure those metal hair combs.

If you are wearing your hair all down, your hairstylist will most likely create a hidden foundation under the hair to support the piece in your hair. These extra precautions (extra hair pins!) will securely hold the headpiece and veil in place.

2. Secure the headpiece on top of the veil

Once the veil is secured into place with bobby pins, you’re now ready to position the headpiece and pin it into place. It’s best to secure the veil first and then the headpiece on top of the veil’s comb for a more seamless finish.

Choose headpieces constructed using split combs or no comb at all

When styling your wedding comb and veil, make sure you take into account how they’re constructed. If you have two central combs (one on the veil and one in the middle of the headpiece), it will be possible to layer them one of top of the other but it may be more of a headache – literally – than it’s worth.

Look for headpieces designed around a split comb system or headpieces which don’t feature a comb at all. This way you can easily position the veil, position the headpiece and easily secure them into place. The two comb system is signature to our brand – we feel two combs allows extra flexibility with style around various hairstyles and head shapes. And of equal importance, it means you can style your headpiece with a veil. Just ensure the combs are wide enough to sit either side of the veil’s comb.

Customised wedding accessories to suit you

If you have found your wedding veil and are looking for a bridal headpiece to finish your look, we’d love to chat. Send us photos of your wedding dress, bridal veil and hairstyle and we can get back to you with ideas and recommendations to suit.

Our collections are all designed and handcrafted in-house so we are able to customise our designs to best suit the proportions of your veil and hairstyle.

Have you ever wondered how to secure a metal hair comb in your hair?  Do you have a hairstyle where combs just seem to fall right out? It can be tricky and it can sometimes seem like it needs to defy gravity to stay in place.

The truth is, it is easier to have a solid base to work from. This could be a firm bun, a messy updo, a twisted or tucked section of hair that’s been pinned into place.  This doesn’t mean it’s impossible to secure a comb in other hairstyles. It will just require a bit of prep work (and lots of bobby pins!).

So if you’re worried your ultimate wedding hairstyle and bridal hair comb won’t work together, here are three ways to secure a metal comb.

Shop this look: LYRIC headpiece, LUCILLE headpiece

The Tease

Lift a layer of hair and gently tease the underside with a fine hair comb. Lower your section of hair, insert the comb and use bobby pins across the teeth of the comb to secure it into place.  It’s best to hide the bobby pins as well as you can for a more seamless finish. You may find 1-2 bobby pins hidden under the hair in an X shape will hold your comb securely into place.

Shop this look: MARJORIE headpiece

Elastic bands

Have you seen those tiny clear hair elastic bands? If you have really short hair, a great way to secure a metal hair comb is to create tiny ponytails in the area you want to wear the comb.  The tiny ponytails are best hidden beneath a section of hair. Once you’ve created a little row of elastic bands, gently nestle the teeth of the comb into the bands. Reinforce with 1-2 bobby pins under the hair.  This method works well if you are planning to wear a side hair comb or a wedding veil in short hair.

The Pincurl

Gather a small amount of hair where you would like the comb to sit. Twirl it around your fingers to create a little curl and then pin it to your head with two bobby pins in an X shape. A little bit of hair spray will also fix it into position. Nestle your metal comb behind the bobby pins.

Styling tips

  • Heavy headpieces may need a solid foundation to stay in place.  These may be better supported by upstyles or half up hairstyles.
  • If your comb is made from plastic, it may be more difficult to hold the comb in place with bobby pins. Small alligator hair clips might be useful.
  • These techniques can be used for hair pins, halos and similar accessories.
  • If you’re looking to change your hair accessories during the course of your wedding day (i.e. remove your wedding veil after the ceremony), be sure to take notes on how the comb was been secured so you don’t mess up your bridal hairstyle trying to remove it. Ask your bridesmaids for help looking for the bobby pins before the comb is pulled out.

Need help?

Your hairstylist will be able to offer you advice and recommendations based on your hair type and your vision for your accessories. There are a number of different hair fasteners that are designed specifically for these situations.  For example, snap clips that are often used to secure hair extensions can also be sewn under a headpiece too.

Every bride has a unique sense of style. The woman behind every bride has her own tastes and preferences which are amplified on her wedding day. The best styling advice we like to offer our brides is to choose pieces and details which will help them feel like a more polished version of their everyday self.  So, if you’re generally fuss-free and you love details (but only in very measured quantities), perhaps some exquisite wedding hair pins are the perfect details to finish your bridal look.

Wedding hair pins have come along way. No longer just simple plastic or fabric details found in a haberdashery store and glued to a pin, today’s hair pins are far from ordinary.  Our collection of dainty pins are reminiscent of a freshly picked posy of flowers, featuring elegant handmade flowers, sparkly crystal details and metal finishes in tones of silver and gold. While they may be small, they certainly hold their own and look beautiful either styled alone or with a veil.

We love the BRIAR-ROSE pins worn with a veil. Due to the delicacy of the details, these pins will style better with a wedding veil that’s attached to a finer comb. Avoid veils attached to a chunky plastic comb with a lot of tulle wrapping as this may overwhelm the look.
