Effortless Chic | Simple hairstyles for destination weddings
Let’s face it, an elaborate up-do isn’t right for every bride. If you’re used to wearing your hair out everyday, having your hair swept up into a tight formal bun probably won’t make you feel like your most beautiful.
If you’re a less-is-more kind of girl, planning a destination wedding to some exotic locale, or having a beautifully simple garden wedding, you’ll want your wedding hair to be unfussy, loose and minimal. You still want to feel utterly beautiful on your big day so go for undone styles, simple braids, pretty hair pins and boho-inspired headpieces.
For all of my lovely low-key brides, I’ve found some of my favourite simple hairstyles for destination weddings. Whether you’re being wed on a tropical island or perhaps even eloping in secret!
If you’re planning a beach wedding, opt for salt-sprayed waves. The ultimate in simple, unfussy styles lets your gorgeous gown and backdrop shine!
A tiara might look out of place, but a flower crown will fit in perfectly. I recommend silk blooms that will last all day and become an heirloom piece. Flower crowns look oh-so-pretty when paired with loose, soft waves.
Surprise Backyard Barbeque
I adore the trend of couples surprising their loved ones in simple backyard ceremonies! Braids couldn’t be more perfect, just adorn with a simple silk flower or two and you won’t give away the surprise before you walk down the aisle.
Tips and tricks
If you’re anything like me, you might find that sometimes the simple hairstyle can be the most difficult to achieve. A few of my favourite tips for perfecting these minimalist styles include:
1. If you can, work with a hairdresser to get your perfect style. One of the benefits of keeping things simple, even if you’re planning a destination wedding, you should be able to find a hairdresser in any location who can master loose waves!
2. If your wedding is overseas and you’re not sure if you’ll be able to communicate with your hairdresser effectively, bring LOTS of pics. A picture speaks a thousand words. Take examples, create a Pinterest board of inspiration, snap photos on your photo and let your imagery do the talking for you.
3. If you’re going to do your own hair… practise, practise, PRACTISE! Don’t wait until the night before or the morning of to get your braids just right. Try YouTube tutorials – especially Kate from the Small Things Blog. Her tutorials are super easy and beyond beautiful. You’ll be mastering your hair in no time.
4. Make sure you have all the right tools. The ultimate beachy wave and many other perfectly imperfect styles require the right products. It’s funny how messy hairstyles often require more products and tools than the sleek ones.
