Hair Envy | Wedding Hair Extensions
Do you long for luscious locks on your wedding day? Even if you weren’t gifted with hair down to your waist, it is possible to recreate some of those beautiful hairstyles you’ve been pinning to your Pinterest boards, without resorting to taking handfuls of hair growth vitamins in the months leading up to your wedding. But how? Wedding hair extensions of course!
Most hairstylists will provide a little assistance to the models they work with on wedding shoots in the form of clip-in extensions, to give extra thickness and length. You can also work with your wedding hairdresser to tap into these secrets of the trade to get the best hair of your life, on the biggest day of your life.
There are some hairstyles that work particularly well with hair extensions, so I thought I would share a few with you today. While you can definitely work with your regular hairdresser to go for a more permanent hair extension option, these hairstyles are all achievable with clip-in extensions, hair ‘donuts’ and other wonderful hairdressing props that your amazing wedding hairstylist can introduce you to!
1. The ballerina bun
Created with a ‘donut’ of foam to give more volume and height, ballerina buns are an elegant and classic look that often need a little more than just the hair your mother blessed you with!
2. The loose curls
Soft curls work well with extensions, giving extra bounce and body to this beautiful look. Extensions will also hold the curl well, meaning your hairstyle will stay well into the last dance.
3. The long braid
Your wedding stylist will pin slices of extension underneath your real hair, in sections around your head, so that they are well disguised. The romantic texture of loose updos like these keep the extension clips hidden well.
A few tips:
If you’re planning on using hair extensions on your wedding day:
- Always use real human hair extensions. The plastic ones, or horse hair ones just will not cut it – you want your hair extensions to feel and look as close to the real thing as possible!
- Have your hair extensions coloured by your hairstylist, so that they match your hair colour as closely as possible. This should be done as close to the wedding as you can, ideally at your last colour appointment before the wedding.
- Let your stylist know you’re planning on using extensions in, and let her use them at your trial, to make sure you’re happy with the final look.
