Medium length wedding hairstyles + hair tutorials
There’s no rule that says a bride should grow her hair long for her wedding day. I’m a big fan of elegant medium length ‘dos, whether swept to the side in a low chignon, or left in loose waves accented with a pretty silk flower or detailed headband.
For brides with medium length locks, hair options abound. There’s so much inspiration on Pinterest that I’ve spent a little time curating some of my all time favourite medium length hairstyles.
Simple and sweet
Simple flicks are just so effortless and chic. This would suit a relaxed yet classically styled bride, and I can just see her dancing the night away without a care in the world. Fancy a veil to adorn this simple ‘do? A traditional veil can easily be secured with the help of a few bobby pins across the comb under the hair. Et voila, a veil that will stay put all day without needing a bridal bun to hold it in place!
Add a little curl, throw in a few loose twists, tuck some of that hair into a loose bun…. These romantic and relaxed styles would look so pretty with a few tiny hair flowers or a lace or sparkly comb.
Beauty in bloom
Flower crowns are so perfect for medium length hair. Finish your ‘do with some sweet blooms to add a touch of whimsy wonderment. Perfect for a garden wedding or a glamorous day ceremony. There’s also a world of dainty crowns to choose from if big blossoms aren’t your style. Try the Giselle (second pictured below) or the Mirabelle headpiece for a touch of glamour with a sprinkling of boho.
Jessica Alba’s up-do is easy to achieve for mid-length girls, especially with a little bit of padding for extra volume. Don’t be afraid of extensions – not to length but to add a little more bulk to work with. Braids also help hide shorter layers, and this would look so stunning under a birdcage veil!
DIY medium length hair tutorials
Medium length wedding hair is perfect for the DIY bride, or for brides planning a destination wedding and looking for a loss fuss style. I’ve collected a few simple tutorials that would be perfect for med length hair:
This pretty half-up French fishtail braid is especially perfect for ladies with layers, or growing out a fringe. I love the asymmetry and I would simply add some tiny silk flowers to complete this style.
A soft, wavy bun is a gorgeous look of medium length hair, because you (or your hairdresser) can add a little bit of padding to make your bun look fuller. This tutorial uses a fishtail braid to add a little bit of texture to a simple side bun.
Side buns and styles can be tricky to pull off with a veil, so if you’re planning on wearing one, you might like to check out my tips for accessorising a side swept wedding hairstyle.
A lovely style for a garden wedding, the low chignon always looks effortlessly chic, and I can see this pretty style paired perfectly with a delicate lace veil, or a bridal hair flower or two!
