Wedding Trends 2017 | The New Vintage: Chic and modern headpieces
It’s fair to say that 2017 is seeing a definite shift in wedding styles as brides walk down the aisle. Our love for vintage and lace isn’t going anywhere – a bridal favourite for many – but this time it’s with a twist.
The New Vintage is all about chic and modern design, ultra glamorous and inspired by the hand-crafted artistry of eras gone by. It’s less shabby chic and more refined with elements of luxury weaved throughout.
If you’ve fallen in love with the new take on vintage, we’re pulled together our favourite wedding hairstyles and bridal headpieces to inspire your look.
The 60s are making a come back, with clean lines and modern silhouettes. Drawing on European influences, this look is a major focus on bridal runways everywhere. Captured beautifully by Roberto Cavalli Fall 2017 and Marchesa Spring/Summer 2017.
Elegantly styled hairstyles of chignons, and French knots paired with statement bridal hairpieces and simple pearl earrings add to the refined nature of this style.
And while a birdcage veil is the obvious pick, its worth considering a fingertip or waltz veil to add some allure and softness to your look.
While the turn of the century is still at the forefront, we are seeing some 70s inspiration of long flowing sleeves, sheer panels and boho details bringing a fresh interpretation to this look. We’re obsessed with Elie Saab’s Spring 2017 Couture collection and Chanel’s Fall Winter 2017/2018 collection – endless inspiration.
If you’re feeling a little nervous about wearing all lace and pairing it with accessories, fear not! One of the many beautiful things we love about boho is the look of mixing and matching elements in unexpected ways. So don’t be afraid to embrace bead details, with mixed metals and floral accents. Teamed with tousled waves, these almost clashing mediums will create pure notes of harmony.
And if you’re wearing a veil, think long and floaty – either floor length or longer – worn at the crown.

And we can’t ignore Art Deco. With the return of opulent beading and long seductive dresses, this vintage style is elegance personified. Of which we are a little obsessed.
Loose romantic updos and soft messy curls teamed with fine crystal combs and metal floral highlights complete this look without being overly themed.
For something a bit different, try a halo that weaves in and under your hairline. It’ll add a hint of glamour without being over the top.
