An Evening in Florence

The recent royal wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left the studio abuzz with lots of beautiful brides requesting statement wedding crowns and veils for their weddings. We’ve always gone weak at the knees when it comes to accessorising a bridal look, and it was so exciting to see Meghan’s wedding look focus so heavily on her dramatic veil and wedding crown to frame her exquisite gown. And that gown? Can we just talk about that for a second? Oh my, what a glorious gown by Claire Waight Keller of Givenchy.

A pearl and gold wedding crown

We recently completed a beautiful pearl and gold wedding crown for the loveliest Sydney bride, Yasmine. Yasmine was inspired by the CAMBRIDGE and REINA crowns and was looking for a custom crown that pulled together her favourite elements.

We were smitten with her lace wedding gown and sought to carry across some of the lace patterns from her dress onto her headpiece. That’s what we love about bespoke – the ability to bring to life our bride’s vision and also to incorporate elements from the rest of the bridal look for a more seamless finish.

The end result? We adore it, and we’d love to hear your feedback too. The gold and light ivory colour palette feels fresh and inviting – reminiscent of a golden garden scrolling along a delicate wrought iron gate.

This beautiful crown is delicate yet makes a profound statement of femininity with a nod to antiquity. An enchanting and ethereal piece that still feels modern and romantic.

How to style a pearl and gold wedding crown

The delicate crown we designed for Yasmine would pair beautifully with a set of pearl drop earrings. The beauty of this piece is in its intricate and spacious detailing, creating a lightweight focal point that can be framed with our favourite earring sets – the BELLA, LOURDES, VALENTINE, MONTAGUE and PROVENCE pearl drop earrings.

Pair this headpiece with romantic updos, all out bridal hairstyles such as loose curls, and half up hairstyles.

Considering a custom wedding crown?

We love to work with our brides one-on-one to handcraft their perfect wedding heirlooms. If you’re inspired by any styles from our collection and would like them tweaked to better suit your style and vision, feel free to get in touch.

Many people around the world, across various cultures and religions, regard the original forbidden fruit to be a pomegranate, and a not an apple, in the Garden of Eden.

Its symbolism across many cultures conjures associations with the earth, deep enduring love, abundance and fertility – due to its numerous seeds and sweet plentiful flesh.

Forbidden Fruit

We were inspired by this intriguing fruit, and its richness in colour, tone and texture. In fact, we have been inspired by a red and gold colour palette for some time, having worked with many Chinese brides over the years to create red and gold wedding headpieces to complement their Chinese bridal looks.

Many of our Chinese brides wear a Cheongsam, a red one-piece dress with intricate gold or silver floral displays, and are looking for the perfect headpiece to complement their style and pay tribute to their heritage.

Our Forbidden Fruit headpiece was designed to capture the essence of the symbolic pomegranate. We felt it would be the perfect place to draw inspiration from for a wedding day – a fruit which symbolises deep enduring love, marriage, fertility and abundance.

The headpiece below brings together two main elements as focal points, each side working in harmony with the other, each bursting with botanical details to symbolise life, growth and love. This lush and captivating piece features deep red jewel tones, rich floral elements and fine gold toned wiring that’s unique in design, bold in colour yet delicate in detailing.

It’s the perfect size to frame a wedding veil or it can be curved to the contours of a range of wedding hairstyles.

Designing a red and gold wedding headpiece

As you an appreciate when it comes to choosing the perfect shade of red lipstick, the red colour spectrum is broad and rich in subtle nuances.  In designing this red and gold headpiece, we chose to work with red tones with a subtle blue undertone to give the piece a richness and warmth.

We also find this colour palette complements blonde, brunette or black hair colour, making a strong and bold statement whilst maintaining a rich feminine quality.

PHOENIX | A red and gold wedding hair comb

This exquisite side comb below is a beautiful example of another piece we recently designed for a Chinese bride. The Phoenix comb is designed to sit to the side of a low set updo, a more subtle interpretation of the Chinese Phoenix coronet.

The inspiration for our designs come from places far and wide. Nature is easily our most profound influence, but we are also inspired by our brides from around the world, their cultures, the unique places and spaces they live in, and of course, romantic and enchanting colour palettes.  In designing this latest gold and blush floral wedding crown, we drew inspiration from blossoming wild flowers in a golden field in the south of France.

The Wild Flowers blush floral wedding crown is a modern take on the traditional tiara or flower halo. It’s the best of both worlds if you love the carefree aesthetic of a flower crown but also love the luxe vibe of a tiara or crown. This delicate piece feels like a vine of blooms and foliage weaving its way along your hairline. Its height complements a range of face shapes and hairstyles without feeling overwhelming.

This pretty piece is set on a fine metal base so it doesn’t pinch behind the ears to cause pain or annoyance. We don’t like headaches on a wedding day either!

A customisable colour palette

This delicate crown feels wild and enchanting, combining soft tones of gold, rose gold, blush and soft champagne. This colour palette suits a range of hairstyles and hair colours to create a mood that’s feminine and romantic. You might be able to relate – rose gold and blush tones will always have a soft spot in our hearts. It’s been a popular colour choice for brides over the years and we don’t think it will be going anywhere anytime soon. This timeless and sophisticated palette is romantic, lush and inspiring. Perfect for a beautiful wedding day.

We love the idea of customising this floral wedding crown in other colour palettes to suit your mood and bridal vision boards. A colour combination which would look exquisite is an antique silver, empire blue and soft ivory tones for a crown that’s moody and whimsical. We also love the idea of gold with mauve or lilac tones for a piece that’s deliciously enchanting.

Sometimes you find the prettiest bridal headpiece but it’s not quite right. It might be the colour, the size, or perhaps the way it’s designed isn’t 100% perfect for the vision you have in your head.

As wedding accessory designers, this is something we can completely understand and empathise with.  It’s exactly why we stand by our made to order and bespoke mandates.

We had the loveliest opportunity to work with Canadian bride Samantha to create a two-way bridal headpiece for her end May wedding day. Samantha loved the POETIC bridal headpiece but was looking for a headpiece which she could style in two different ways for her wedding ceremony and reception.

Customising Samantha's headpiece for her two bridal looks

For the ceremony, she was hoping to style it more as a headband at the top of her head. For the reception she was planning to wear it backwards to frame her bridal hairstyle.

We got to work on redesigning her headpiece so it was perfect for her two bridal looks. Wearing the same headpiece or accessory for both the ceremony and reception is a great way to get prolonged wear out of a piece. It also means that you can ensure continuity with details – i.e. you don’t have to change your earrings or other jewellery to match.

The delicate and organic details, as well as its boho chic styling, are just a few of the reasons why Samantha fell in love with the POETIC bridal headpiece the first place. So in redesigning Samantha’s piece, we wanted to ensure we retained the intrinsic nature and beauty of the piece.

To ensure the floral elements remained the perfect focal points of the piece, we repositioned the placement of the clay flowers to the sides for a more evenly distributed look.  We also scattered the delicate pearl and crystal elements along the mid section of the headpiece to ensure it could be styled with both looks.  It was a balancing act to ensure it didn’t look too bare in the mid section but we also didn’t take attention away from the clay flowers.

Samantha's ceremony bridal look

For her wedding ceremony, Samantha will be able to style her headpiece along the hair line as a headband by pinning the headpiece into place near the ears.

This beautiful look can still be paired with a wedding veil or pearl drop earrings, or even warn alone for a more simple look.

Samantha's reception bridal look

The headpiece attaches to the hair with little loops and Samantha’s hairstylist can easily position it into place with bobby pins hidden under the hair. By removing the bobby pins and flipping the headpiece to face backwards, Samantha is able to style her reception bridal look within a few minutes.

We love the look of this headpiece facing backwards and it would look gorgeous styled with half up/half down hairstyles or perhaps even all out hairstyles with soft curls.

Interested in your own custom heirloom?

If you’d love to chat about your own custom wedding accessories, feel free to get in touch by sending us photos of your wedding dress, bridal hairstyle and details of your favourite styles from our collection. We’d love to work with you to create your perfect heirloom pieces!

Why do we offer bespoke? Because there’s thousands of wedding dresses out there, and thousands of hairstyles, multiple face shapes, so many different hair types.  We truly don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to our wedding accessories and veils because our brides are all so unique.  You might prefer a blush and silver hair comb but the headpiece you love seems to only be available in gold and ivory? Perhaps not, get in touch and there’s a really good chance we can design it for you in the colour palette of your choice.

All of our designs are designed and handcrafted in our Canberra, Australia studio. This gives us complete control over the whole design and construction process and we always encourage our brides to send us photos of their wedding dresses, hairstyles and face shapes so we can recommend the best styles for them.

A bespoke blush and silver hair comb

Bride Jacqueline is a perfect example of how we love to assist our brides. Jacqui loved the blush and silver details of our TEAROSE hair pin but preferred the styling of the ARTEMIS hair comb. While the styles are similar in size, there are differences between them which limit how they can be worn. So, we tweaked the design of TEAROSE so that Jacqui could wear it to the side of her head to frame her side swept hairstyle. We filled it in a little, lengthened it a tad, shifted some of the details, positioned it on a comb and ensured that when styled on the right, the details were all facing the correct way.

We love this chic and petite hair piece. It’s dainty and delicate – the perfect size for side swept hairstyles but also any wedding updo or loose bridal hairstyle.

We loved to work with bride Holly to create a rose gold bridal hair vine for her wedding day. Working with Holly was a dream, and it’s fair to say, the end result is even dreamier. The vision for Holly’s piece was a backwards facing headpiece in her favourite metal with a soft pink hue, and silver crystal elements with lots of sparkle.

To say we’re in love with her custom bridal hair vine is an understatement. Rose gold metals mixed with a soft whisper of silver details feel effortlessly elegant and luxurious.

There’s an ethereal quality to this piece which we find mesmerising and we’re thrilled Holly loves her piece too.

We love florals just as much as the next gal, but this botanical inspired piece feels fresh and feminine, without the flowers.

How to style Holly's bridal hair vine

Delicate headpieces suit a range of bridal looks – from soft and flowing feminine gowns to more structured lace wedding dresses. We also love to pair them with modern and sleek gowns when the hairstyle chosen is loose, soft and romantic.

The key to styling dainty headpieces is to ensure the piece complements the vibe of your wedding dress and hairstyle. Dainty doesn’t necessarily need to mean subtle. As our collection shows, there are many bold and statement-making pieces that are delicate in nature. It all comes down to it’s size, positioning and of course, the thoughtfulness of the details and tones incorporated into the design.

For a look that’s feminine and sophisticated, we love to style this piece at the back of the head to frame a half up hairstyle or loose curls. This piece is flexible and can be gently manipulated to the curve of a low set bridal bun.

The leaf elements and the direction of the crystal elements feel organic and fresh, like freshly grown vines growing out of a messy wedding updo or hairstyle.

As this piece creates a mood that’s quite whimsical and ethereal, we recommend styling it with loose soft curls rather than polished hairstyles.

Custom made for you

If you love this piece, or if you’d like a piece custom made for you in rose gold tones, do get in touch. We’d love to work with you to create something beautiful.

We adore Art Deco detailing. The distinctive decorative elements, the sleek silhouettes and geometric forms that reflected the free-spirited thinking of the time. It’s always exciting to see a wedding day inspired by the beauty of yesteryear, and the Art Deco era is the perfect place to source inspiration for a bridal look.

Bride Elizabeth was in touch with us to design and create a silver Art Deco wedding headpiece to complement her wedding dress. Elizabeth was after a full halo with blue details scattered across the piece in the most beautiful way. We shared images and details and got to work on creating her special piece.

And, from the moment we started work designing her piece, we fell in love. The opulence of this wedding headpiece set our hearts aflutter and the details on it took us over the edge.

The inspiration for this Art Deco wedding headpiece

We drew inspiration from our HARPER crown, an exquisite piece that’s one of our favourites from the Secret Garden collection. Staying true to the vision, we carried these elements across into the key geometric shapes in a linear fashion. The end result is strikingly simple yet ethereal, dramatic and enchanting all at the same time.

As you may have noticed in our work, we draw our inspiration from the beauty of the botanicals and the perfectly imperfect that Mother Nature has to offer. For Elizabeth’s wedding headpiece, our inspiration came from a period in time which was typified by defined shapes often broken up into decorative elements. This inspiration lead us to choose filigree and shimmering crystal details to capture the spirit of the time.

How to style this headpiece

We love to style this piece with wedding gowns with a nod to the past. Think long flowy wedding dresses, vintage gowns, lace dresses, tea dresses, playful skirts and modern silhouettes with a hint of history.

This full halo was designed with Elizabeth’s wedding hairstyle and head circumference in mind.  The back section tapers off ever so elegantly into a narrower section to frame her hairstyle and wedding veil.

This piece is sturdy yet flexible and can be worn across the forehead as a flapper-inspired piece, or worn further back in the hairline for an updated and modern look.

If you love this piece, or would like a piece designed just for you, feel free to get in touch. Send us an email with details of your wedding look and your vision and we can start the beautiful journey of bespoke.

We loved working on this layered beauty for South African bride, Sarah. Sarah dreamed of a lace wedding headpiece to complement her wedding dress. And, as her husband is Australian, she thought this would be the perfect way to bring a little ‘Australia’ into the festivities! Oh, what a beautiful sentiment and what an honour it was to be involved in their special day.

We design our pieces to be heirlooms and we love how brides are looking for unique ways to add a bit of their story and unique style into their wedding accessories. Many of our brides pass their pieces onto their daughters, sisters or friends after the wedding day. We feel so lucky to be part of their journeys. After the day has been and gone, and the dress is packed away, our beautiful pieces can be passed on or carefully stored in our signature navy boxes for safe keeping.

The inspiration behind Sarah's custom lace headpiece

Sarah was inspired by two very different headpieces from our collection: the clay flower and pearl details from our MARION headpiece and the lace elements from the MARIAH. Her wedding dress exudes classic appeal – a clean and modern silhouette, French lace details across the bodice and neckline, and a stunning plunging low back. With these details in mind, we started dreaming up her beautiful piece.

This headpiece was designed to be worn with or without a wedding veil. We wanted her headpiece to be a ‘veil cover’ and to frame the top section of the veil during the ceremony. Sarah will be styling her hair in a low set updo so this symmetrical piece will look beautiful even after she’s removed the veil for the reception.

Sarah will also be wearing a veil on her wedding day – our AUDREY minimalist veil – which will pair perfectly with this exquisite lace hair piece. We also love the  idea of this textured piece with an embellished veil also. Our LOREN chapel veil with pearls would also look incredible with this comb.

Style it with a drop veil

As Sarah will be styling her headpiece with our AUDREY chapel veil, we also captured it with a sheer drop veil below. Scroll below to find this beautiful piece paired with our BLAIR drop veil – a classic drop veil which features less gathers than the LOREN.

A bespoke piece for you

If you love this piece, feel free to get in touch and we can chat details. We’d love to work with you to create the perfect headpiece or veil for your wedding day. All of our pieces are handcrafted from scratch so all elements can be customised including details, dimensions and colours.

The delicate details of the FAYETTE wedding halo inspired us to create this silver and rose gold wedding crown.

In our mind’s eye, we saw a piece with rose gold and blush pearls woven onto an antique silver fine crown.  If you’re familiar with our work, you’ll know that our signature details take inspiration from the beauty of nature.  We weaved tiny pearls, crystals and glass seed beads into subtle details that mimicked delicate wild roses and buds that had yet to bloom.

We love the breathlessness of this piece and the way your eye flows across the various intersections and details. There’s a fine balance to create a bold and beautiful piece that makes a grand statement without feeling or looking too heavy. We are always inspired by Mother Nature and this exquisite crown is a tribute to the perfectly imperfect we see when we look outside our windows.

Inspiration

Our FAYETTE wedding halo in silver and blush tones has been a loved piece from our Secret Garden collection. This collection focused on antique silver tones with champagne and blush accents – a colour combination we are endlessly inspired by.

We adore the simplicity of this delicate halo and the way it weaves across the hair so effortlessly.

For lovers of gold tones, the FAYETTE can also be customised in gold tones with ivory or blush details.

We love how couples are redefining and personalising wedding traditions. It’s not uncommon to see brides skip the traditional bridal garter toss and instead choose to wear their garter for their wedding night or save it for the honeymoon. There are no rules when it comes to these things. You shouldn’t feel pressured at all to wear a garter or participate in the garter toss festivities if it makes you feel uncomfortable.

For other brides, the garter toss is something they’ve always imagined doing on their wedding day. Just like wearing a wedding veil or being walked down the aisle by their Mum, Dad or favourite person.

It’s always lovely when our brides tell us how their hearts broke when their beautiful handmade ‘toss’ garter was flung into the crowd.  That always makes us smile because we love knowing that the pieces we create are cherished so dearly.

The perfect 'something blue' for your wedding day

The DAPHNE lace wedding garter has been one of the most popular lace garters from the wedding garter collection. Completely hand-dyed, we love the soft blue tones of this pretty set.

Subtle and sweet, our garter is custom made to order with your measurements so it sits snug against your skin and won’t add bulk beneath the layers of your wedding dress. It features cascading floral lace details, finished with a gentle sprinkling of rhinestones.

The toss garter is delightful too and sold separately.

Be sure to send us your measurements so we can ensure a perfect fit.
