Tania, designer and Creative Director of Tania Maras Bridal, celebrates the 10-year anniversary of her business at the beginning of this year. What started out as a side hustle designing and manufacturing clutch purses has morphed into a leading bridal accessories brand. Her forward-thinking approach, vast skill set and unmatched eye for creating beautiful designs, have captured the attention and admiration of brides worldwide. Here, she shares her insights, stories and lessons that have shaped her business.
Thank you! Being able to go full-time with what started as a side hustle while I was in my office job is one of my greatest career highlights. Now I have two young children, I’m able to balance work and family life. I’m surrounded by a supportive team who have allowed me to be a mum and also a boss. I’m very lucky. Learning to delegate has been the hardest thing, and building a team of dedicated and talented creatives who love what they do as much as I do, is also an important achievement for me. As is creating a beautiful studio where coming to work is always a pleasure.
I loved the process of designing and handcrafting clutch purses – ones that are both beautiful and practical. My collections featured a range of prints and colours, in casual as well as formal designs. The support I received from my customers was so positive and they would request custom pieces in softer colour palettes for their bridal parties and their bridal looks. From there I ventured into the art of silk flower making, and then wire work, and here we are.
The bridal industry has changed dramatically over the past decade and I feel this is because brides have evolved. Women are questioning and redefining the wedding traditions that don’t resonate with them and their values, as well as what is traditionally expected of them. Brides want to create a day that’s the perfect expression of themselves and their partners, so it’s much more of a personal event.
My goal is to help each bride find a piece or pieces that speak to her on a personal level, either from the collection, or by designing a bespoke piece to suit their individual style. Previously brides were the recipient of heirlooms from their grandmothers and mothers, but I’ve found over the years that brides now want to start their own traditions and find their own heirlooms to create a legacy which they can pass onto their daughters.
Wheeling in our racks or wedding gowns, boxes of veils and cases of jewellery into Mona Farm, we were captivated by the serene beauty of this historic property. With paths winding through lush woodlands, ornate gardens and fields of flowers, this hidden gem in regional NSW was the ultimate spot to showcase our very own collection of treasures.
The Tania Maras team spent a day at the picturesque Mona Farm to shoot our upcoming Le Jardin collection of veils and headpieces. The collection stars statement veils scattered with twinkling crystals and cascading lace embellishments along with wildflower-inspired hair combs and tiaras. Designer and Creative Director, Tania Maras, looked to the magic of moonlit gardens when designing this assemblage.
“The collection is inspired by the grandeur of the garden under the infinite stars above. Muted tones of silver and soft gold have been accented with tints of ivory, blush and champagne in a way that feels fresh and utterly enchanting,” says Tania.
The scenic surrounds of Mona Farm made for some breathtaking backdrops for the collection, captured by our photographer Phil, from Heart and Colour. We also had the lovely Sophie from Engaged Creative on board as our stylist and Kate Lily Hair Dressing and Alex Perrin on hair and makeup respectively. The beautiful Sarah Shaw modelled the accessorises with flair and grace. We also had one very cute helper – Tania’s five-month-old son. Although he wasn’t the most productive member of the team, he did help boost morale and keep us entertained with his smile and giggles!
The Le Jardin collection will be available within the coming weeks. Here, we’re giving you a sneak peek of the soon-to-be-released designs. If you’re interested in one of the pieces, please contact us. And if you’re in need of wedding venue, check out Mona Farm. The property is a three hour drive from Sydney and a one hour drive from Canberra, and offers scenic views, accommodation and a purpose built reception venue.

The HARVEST gold wedding crown is all about natural and organic floral styling. Inspired by a love for wild flowers, this artfully arranged red and gold wedding crown is reminiscent of freshly picked flowers from a field of wild blossoms.
For the unique bride, this crown makes an elegant yet bold statement that’s whimsical and feminine for the modern romantic. If you’re yearning for something a little different and unconventional, working colour into your bridal look can be a fashion-forward way to make a beautiful statement.
Your accessories should represent your personal style and sensibilities, your likes and loves and your perception of beauty. For some brides, this might mean something a little unconventional and bold, or for other brides it might mean something more traditional and classic. Whatever your style, your bridal look should feel like a natural extension of your style.
We love to pair the HARVEST crown with delicate and dainty crystal earring drops. These ethereal and lightweight sets perfectly frame the face without competing with the bold red details scattered across the headpiece.
Our favourite combinations include the GEORGE, ISABEAU and ARLETTE crystal drop sets.
This gold wedding crown features a beautiful balance of foraged red flowers, ruby red crystals and rose gold and blush elements set against gold toned detail. As a bespoke accessories designer, all of our pieces can be customised to suit your bridal colour palette.
We think this unique piece would look beautiful in antique silver tones with scattered ivory flowers, soft natural freshwater pearls and empire blue details for a subtle touch of colour.
Fancy something a little more classic? Perhaps gold and ivory tones with champagne elements might be more your style. Or antique silver with blush tones and soft ivory tones might feel a little more timeless and sophisticated. This beautiful piece – along with our bridal collection – can be customised to suit your wedding dress, hairstyle and personal preferences.
Organic bridal styling is about effortless elegance. The HARVEST gold wedding tiara takes cues from the wilderness with boho luxe appeal. It’s designed to frame the face and hair as though it’s growing out of your hair and weaving along your hair line in a way that’s fluid and romantic.
We think this piece would style beautifully with a sheer bridal veil with a clean raw edge. Pair it with a drop veil such as the ROSELLA wedding veil or a classic cut shorter veil such as our BLAIR fingertip veil.
In terms of hair, think all out hair with loose curls, half up hairstyles or a soft romantic bun.
It’s always a good thing when you can wear something again after your wedding day. The HARVEST headpiece would perfectly suit spring races, engagement parties or anniversary dinners. Pair it with loose curls and all out messy hair for a look that’s bohemian inspired, soft and romantic.

There’s a certain magic about the VERSAILLES wedding headpiece. A subtle and sweet tribute to Mother Nature that’s bursting with botanical details in a way that’s refined and sophisticated. This signature wedding headpiece from our collection became the inspiration for Cathy’s custom headpiece and we were honoured to have had the opportunity to create it for Cathy’s wedding day.
We love the subtle golden allure of this heirloom worthy piece. It feels uncomplicated, unbounded and bursting with botanical details. It’s the perfect piece if you’re inspired by the rawness of nature and the richness of golden colour palettes. When paired with an ivory wedding dress, the warmth of the golden hues contrast beautifully and creates a striking focal point.
As a bespoke bridal accessories designer, we are able to customise all of our bridal headpieces and veils to suit the hairstyles, wedding dresses and visions of our brides. A wedding headpiece doesn’t need to be a one-size-fits all addition to a bridal look, and we stand by our bespoke mandate to offer our brides versatility and flexibility with styling.
Signature to our collections is a love for the botanics and a deep respect for nature.
We reimagined this gold wedding headpiece whilst staying true to the aesthetic of the VERSAILLES, reworking the elements so that its asymmetry was subtle yet purposeful – allowing Cathy to style it in her side swept hairstyle. This headpiece still has a certain symmetry to it which we adore, and means it can easily be worn with symmetrical hairstyles that are yearning for an organic accessory to soften the lines.
Creating the perfectly imperfect has its challenges – the balance of proportions, spacing and function. But with a bit of trial and experimentations, we’re thrilled with the end result and are even happier that Cathy loves it too.
Cathy fell in love with an exquisite side swept bridal hairstyle that gently cascaded over her shoulder. We wanted to create her wedding headpiece so that it accentuated her hairstyle as well as her wedding dress.  This beautiful piece could also be worn with half up hairstyles, a low set updo and even all out curls.
A wedding veil would be the perfect accompaniment – perfectly positioned between the two combs to sit seamlessly in her hair.
If you love this piece, or would love to chat about a wedding headpiece customised for you, feel free to get in touch. Send across photos of your wedding dress, hairstyles and anything that inspires you and we can go from there.
We love a floral bridal headpiece as much as the next bride. We can’t help ourselves – we live and breath all things delicate and beautiful, and often find floral elements can add the perfect detail to a bridal look.
A bridal headpiece bursting with floral femininity is the ultimate in bridal styling. You can pair it with a wedding veil or wear it alone as a statement piece. Either way, wear it for the wedding ceremony and dance with it into the night with just a few bobby pins holding it securely into place.
We recently had the pleasure of working with German bride Nadine to create her custom ANAIS bridal headpiece with ivory clay flowers. In addition to changing the flowers, we also shortened it slightly, altered the layout to better suit her fine Chantilly lace wedding dress, her hairstyle and her general preferences for a more delicate piece.
The end result? Well, we’re obviously bias but we love how it’s the perfect balance of delicacy and jaw-dropping beauty.
Our ‘made to order’ and ‘custom made’ mandates are at the heart of everything we do. We don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to wedding accessories. You know the struggle of finding that wedding dress that was perfect for you, and there’s no reason why off-the-shelf accessories aren’t any different.
We customise our wedding headpieces and veils to suit our bride’s height, head shapes, face shapes, jewellery – and of course, wedding dresses. There’s so much to factor in when it comes to styling a bridal look and we like to factor in all these important details to ensure the final look is seamless, timeless and beautiful.
The bridal headpiece we designed for Nadine is built on a flexible base so she can easily curve it to the contours of her head and hairstyle. We’ve photographed it styled backwards on the head but it can also be worn along the hairline as a headband/crown.
We love to work with our brides to create their perfect wedding accessories. If you love a piece but it’s not quite right, feel free to reach out and let us know what you’re envisaging, share details of your bridal look with photos or descriptions and we can go from there. We hope to hear from you!
