An Evening in Florence

Arna’s admiration of the ocean can be traced back to her childhood, growing up in a seaside town in the far south of Tasmania. Her father is an Abalone diver and he would bring home shells with mesmerising mother-of-pearl patterns in blue, green and pink tones. Her husband shares similar childhood memories. Jed is from the eastern suburbs of Sydney, close to the beautiful Clovelly and Coogee beaches.

To honour this shared love, Arna and Jed’s wedding took place on the coast of Tasmania, overlooking the tranquil waters of the D’Entrecasteaux Channel and Bruny Island. Arna walked down the aisle in a pearl wedding veil, our exquisite pearl drenched Dewberry.

Setting the Scene

Both the ceremony and reception were held at Peppermint Grove, in Woodbridge, Tasmania. Arna and Jed wanted to create an elegant and warm atmosphere, and styled the venue with lots of candles, greenery and white roses.

“We both are very much family orientated and wanted to bring everyone together in a relaxed environment, which was made naturally easy with our gorgeous water-side venue nestled in a calm cove overlooking Bruny Island,” says Arna.

Arna’s Beautiful Bow Gown

Wedding dress shopping was both an enjoyable and eye-opening experience for Arna. Once they found her perfect dress, Arna and her mum were sad the experience was over!

“I had a style in mind and after trying so many dresses in that style, I realised they just didn’t suit me at all,” says Arna. “That’s when I started to wonder if maybe a simple, classic style would suit me better. After some research around the local bridal boutiques, Timeless Elegance said that they had just received some new designs that they thought might interest me and sent me a photo of ‘Lily’. At first I wasn’t sure as it was very figure hugging. I tried it on and it was an instant… “mm, yes!” It’s gorgeous bow fell perfectly over my shoulder without it being too ‘ bow-ie’ and gave the dress some simple interest, it just felt right.”

Arna’s advice to brides-to-be is to start dress shopping early (from when Arna ordered her dress to when it arrived, it was about 8 and a half months) and to not be afraid to try a dress on that isn’t your style – as you might be pleasantly surprised!

A pearl wedding veil

A testament to her love of the water, Arna styled her dress with our pearl Dewberry veil – a single tier veil in chapel length, featuring a beautiful sprinkling of crystal pearls.

“I originally wasn’t going to wear a veil… I personally thought it was too old fashioned and unnecessary. However, once I had decided on my dress, I thought maybe I’ll just try a veil on to see what it would look like… I fell in love again!” says Arna. “But I didn’t want just a plain tulle. I didn’t even research veils, I kept thinking about them for weeks until I thought – a pearl veil! I love pearls and so I started googling pearl veils and came across Tania Maras and absolutely fell in love with Dewberry.”

To complement her veil, Arna’s hair was styled side swept with a pearl hair clip and vintage waves.

Best Advice

“Have the wedding you want. It’s great to get other people’s opinions and ideas, but at the end of the day, it’s yours and it truly is one of the best times of your lives,” says Arna. “Take it all in and enjoy the process, it’s a lot of fun!”

SPECIAL THANKS TO…

For some brides, styling their wedding look is the most fun a woman can have. For others, the endless choices and all the little decisions can feel overwhelming and push you out of your comfort zone.

It’s true that styling your look requires planning, an eye for detail and having a good understanding of your personal style. But it doesn’t mean you need to have a solid background in fashion or design. Often the best thing to listen to is your instincts – after all, you know your style more than anyone else. And if you don’t know your style, you certainly know what you don’t like so perhaps a process of elimination might be a good starting point for you.

Megan's bridal look

We recently had the pleasure of working with bride Megan from the USA to create a floral bridal crown and pearl veil for her wedding day. Megan had a good understanding of her style and the vibe she was looking for to complete her bridal look. Megan had a few favourites from our collection but wasn’t sure about the best pieces for her look and how to bring together her accessories to complement her dress and venue in a seamless and cohesive way.

Megan’s bridal dress journey started with a vision in mind of a soft and flowing silhouette with feminine details. In the end, she fell in love with the exact opposite – a classic and structured half ballgown free of embellishments. Her timeless gown created the perfect blank canvas to inspire her accessories.

After having tried on a range of bridal headpieces and veils at her local bridal boutique, Megan reached out to us online in search for detailing that included golden tones and floral elements.  Having had an opportunity to experiment with different styles in store, Megan was able to form a better idea of her likes and dislikes and the type of accessories she felt was more suitable for her personality and style.

After browsing our collections, Megan fell in love with the floral and leaf details on our FLORES crown and gravitated towards the shape and airiness of the SONNET. She preferred styles with free space between details to create a sense of airiness and smaller details.

The venue

The wedding venue Megan booked exudes an old world and romantic character in her mother’s home country of Ireland.  The venue features a variety of design elements – the house itself is a 16th century with an eclectic moody antique space with acres of gardens. The venue also included a white marble greenhouse, and the reception space is a rustic low-lit red brick space.

With a variety of details, colours and accents in the venue, we helped Megan pull together her accessories so they felt consistent and appropriate for her wedding space.

Complementing Megan's bespoke pearl veil

We were also fortunate to be able to design Megan’s bridal headpiece in conjunction with her bespoke pearl veil. To add drama and detail to her structured semi-ball gown, Megan chose our NADIA veil which we customised with a heavier cluster of pearls along the full circumference of the veil for a more dramatic look.

We took some photos of her beautiful veil in the studio before we shipped it off to the USA from Australia.

We loved working on this layered beauty for South African bride, Sarah. Sarah dreamed of a lace wedding headpiece to complement her wedding dress. And, as her husband is Australian, she thought this would be the perfect way to bring a little ‘Australia’ into the festivities! Oh, what a beautiful sentiment and what an honour it was to be involved in their special day.

We design our pieces to be heirlooms and we love how brides are looking for unique ways to add a bit of their story and unique style into their wedding accessories. Many of our brides pass their pieces onto their daughters, sisters or friends after the wedding day. We feel so lucky to be part of their journeys. After the day has been and gone, and the dress is packed away, our beautiful pieces can be passed on or carefully stored in our signature navy boxes for safe keeping.

The inspiration behind Sarah's custom lace headpiece

Sarah was inspired by two very different headpieces from our collection: the clay flower and pearl details from our MARION headpiece and the lace elements from the MARIAH. Her wedding dress exudes classic appeal – a clean and modern silhouette, French lace details across the bodice and neckline, and a stunning plunging low back. With these details in mind, we started dreaming up her beautiful piece.

This headpiece was designed to be worn with or without a wedding veil. We wanted her headpiece to be a ‘veil cover’ and to frame the top section of the veil during the ceremony. Sarah will be styling her hair in a low set updo so this symmetrical piece will look beautiful even after she’s removed the veil for the reception.

Sarah will also be wearing a veil on her wedding day – our AUDREY minimalist veil – which will pair perfectly with this exquisite lace hair piece. We also love the  idea of this textured piece with an embellished veil also. Our LOREN chapel veil with pearls would also look incredible with this comb.

Style it with a drop veil

As Sarah will be styling her headpiece with our AUDREY chapel veil, we also captured it with a sheer drop veil below. Scroll below to find this beautiful piece paired with our BLAIR drop veil – a classic drop veil which features less gathers than the LOREN.

A bespoke piece for you

If you love this piece, feel free to get in touch and we can chat details. We’d love to work with you to create the perfect headpiece or veil for your wedding day. All of our pieces are handcrafted from scratch so all elements can be customised including details, dimensions and colours.
