An Evening in Florence

A true labour of love, every detail on Monica's bespoke wedding day was individually crafted with meticulous attention to detail.

It’s not every day we get to work with a bride seeking a runway-worthy embellished wedding veil. When US bride Monica first shared her vision with us for her Syrian Orthodox church ceremony, we were in bridal heaven.

Without sharing too many details, Monica’s wedding dress is truly spectacular with a regal cathedral train and classic silhouette.  She had envisaged a veil which would add to the grandeur and beauty of her gown whilst bringing an element of the runway to her look. We were thrilled to accept the challenge and couldn’t wait to bring her vision to life.

From concept to reality

The specs were simple and clear which we loved.  The veil needed to be a commanding 411cm long and feature her favourite embellishments from our RIVIERA wedding veil. The vision was one of high style and intricate beauty. Think head to toe florals and beyond.

This was a labour of love to say the least. We knew from the outset this veil would take many months to create from scratch. Once we started, our inner perfectionists kicked in and we were immersed in the fine details until they were just right.

In total, Monica’s bespoke wedding veil took 6 full months to create from initially cutting the plain tulle fabric through to stitching on the last beaded details and securing the hair comb.

We painstaking hand cut hundreds of lace appliques to form floral and leaf motifs which were pinned and secured to the tulle fabric. Hundreds of sheer petals were lovingly hand formed into flowers, then individually hand beaded with crystal pearls, shimmering crystals and tiny silver seed beads. Crystal pearls were then applied for an extra luxurious detail. The end result? The most breathtaking veil we have ever had the opportunity to create.

Note: The dress worn in the images below is a studio dress and not Monica’s actual wedding dress.

Practical considerations

In designing this veil for Monica, it was essential to take into account a number of practical considerations:

Weight:
A 411cm embellished veil will be heavier than a simple chapel length veil. While not a ‘heavy’ veil in the literal sense, it is important that the placement of embellishments are balanced to ensure the veil drapes and drags along the ground evenly.

Accentuating a wedding dress:
The lace and floral details around Monica’s neck, shoulders and waist line are slightly more spread out to ensure the veil doesn’t overwhelm her frame and allows for the silhouette of her wedding dress to show through.

Managing an extra long veil:
To ensure Monica’s veil sits correctly as she walks down the aisle, we secured discreet loops for her fingers (thumb, index or pinky fingers) which she can use as she walks down the aisle. Creating these finger loops means that when she’s holding her bouquet and walking towards her groom, her veil will sit forward and will be pulled behind her evenly. We have positioned them in such a way that they won’t be noticeable.

In effect, Monica’s veil will have 4 points of contact to ensure the weight of the veil is carried evenly. 1.  It will be secured to her hair with a comb; 2 and 3. It will be pulled along by her fingers on each side via the discreet finger loops; and 4. The regal cathedral length train on her wedding dress will carry the rest of the weight.

A one-of-a-kind wedding veil

It was a pleasure to work with Monica to bring her bridal vision to life. We feel so grateful to have had the opportunity to create such a spectacular piece of art. A true labour of love.

We took a lace wedding cape to a whole new level for bride Alexandra. We transformed the untamed floral details of our RIVIERA veil and reimagined it to form the ultimate accessory to elevate the clean lines and sleek silhouette of her wedding dress.

The end result? A bridal cape that’s the perfect alternative to a wedding veil.

A custom lace wedding cape

Alexandra’s vision was for a cape that accentuated her wedding dress with a long silhouette, reminiscent of a wedding veil. She loved our RIVIERA veil with its characteristic lace details, floral elements and scattered pearls. Completely hand embellished to perfection.

The details of Alexandra’s RIVIERA cape speaks of bold femininity and a timeless beauty with a contemporary twist.  Bringing the essence of the veil into Alexandra’s cape felt like its natural evolution.

We loved working with Alexandra to bring together her bridal look and feel immense gratitude for the opportunity to bring her vision to life.

Daniela discovered us through Instagram and fell in love with our work. She sent us an email with photographs of her wedding dress, potential hairstyles and also shared her thoughts on the type of gold wedding crown she had envisaged for her wedding day.

With her wedding in early December, we were excited at the prospect to work with her and we had a good amount of time to design and create a gold wedding crown and have it arrive with time to spare so she could bring it along to her dress fitting.

Daniela's bridal look

Daniela had chosen an exquisite lace wedding wedding dress which she will wear with a detachable full skirt and long train.  Her look channels all that is majestic and grande in a way that exudes timelessness and a classic sensibility.

She was still deciding between a ponytail and low set hair bun with middle part when we first started emailing so we designed a gold wedding crown which she could wear with both hairstyles depending on which option she decided to go with.

The inspiration behind this gold wedding crown

Daniela’s love for a pale gold finish rather than a stronger yellow gold undertone lead us to draw inspiration from the LYRIC headpiece. We loved the way the leaves and details on the LYRIC grow out and around from the centre and felt it would be the perfect foundation for her headpiece.

Her other favourite style was our ENCHANTED headpiece but as it’s profile was a little too low and the details were only available in a warmer yellow gold, we decided to carry across some of the defining floral elements across instead into her bespoke crown.

We lengthened the design of the LYRIC and reworked it onto a firmer base to support the crown style she loved. We brought in freshwater pearls from the ENCHANTED crown to add fullness to the piece, as well as extra texture and depth.  As the headpiece will be worn at the top of Daniela’s head, we also needed to design it with additional leaves and flowers so it would look beautiful and decadent from all angles.

Still looking for your perfect headpiece?

Finding that perfect headpiece can be a challenge because there are can be many options to choose from.  Sometimes having lots of choice can make it harder to make a decision.

If you’re still looking for your perfect headpiece or veil, feel free to get in touch with us via email and share thoughts and photos on the vision and style you have in mind.  We would love to work with you to talk through the options and what could work. If your perfect piece doesn’t exist but you feel elements of it can be seen across a few of our styles do let us know too as we would love to work with you to bring it life.

We have always loved the ornamental orchid flower so it was a delight to bring Audrey's vision to life.

Drawing inspiration from the tones of bride Audrey’s cheongsam (a traditional fitted dress worn by Chinese women), we designed and handcrafted a purple orchid wedding comb for her second bridal look.  Audrey had originally discovered us when she had found a pearl comb from our collection which she purchased to wear with her white wedding gown. She loved it so much she asked us to create a bespoke piece for her second bridal look which we were thrilled to take on.

A bespoke pearl comb to match Audrey's gown

Audrey’s cheongsam is a classic beauty with a exquisite floral display of refined elegance and sophistication.  Ivory in colour with mid-length, delicately flared lace sleeves, and hand painted watercolour purple orchids down one side of the bodice.

Audrey’s vision was for a hair comb to create a simple yet bold floral statement in her updo that celebrated the purple orchids on her dress. We matched the purple tones to her dress and mimicked elements of the floral arrangements.

Using Keshi freshwater pearls in a soft lilac tone, we constructed dainty purple orchids as focal points. We loved their iridescent nature and the aubergine and lilac notes they reflect. We paired these purple hues with golden leaves and dark purple and lilac sparkly bead branches which extended elegantly away from the flowers, creating texture through layers.

What happens when you fall in love with a few floral wedding headpieces and can’t decide which one to go for? Well, for US bride Tristan, she found herself in this exact situation when she discovered our CHERRY BLOSSOM set, and the MARION and the VERSAILLES headpieces.

When Tristan got in touch with her vision and predicament, we were instantly excited at the prospect of bringing together her favourite styles to create her perfect floral wedding headpiece. The styles she fell in love with all shared a number of common features: beautiful florals, an effortless regality and most importantly, their construction methods and aesthetics were similar which made it possible to bring her vision to life.

We believe that custom wedding accessories are just as important as having a wedding dress tailored and tweaked to suit your body shape and height. We all have different face shapes, hair thickness and types, and style, and we love to offer our brides the ability to tweak our designs so they are perfect for them.

Tristan's bridal look

Tristan had chosen an exquisite white wedding gown by Essence of Australia for her outdoor, garden wedding in Miami at a private Spanish style villa called Villa Woodbine.

Her bridal hairstyle is the epitome of style with hair mostly down and slightly pinned back with a boho style braid which she can tuck her veil into.

She shared pictures from her dress fitting of her wedding dress with her veil and we designed her hairpieces to take into account the width of her veil comb and the hairstyle she’d picked.

Combining a floral wedding headpiece with hair pins

The beauty of a larger headpiece and two matching pins is it will offer countless ways to style your hair. For Tristan, the larger floral headpiece is designed to frame her wedding veil and the two additional hair pins can be scattered as she pleases to add sense of whimsy. She can secure the pins at the ends of the piece to elongate the main headpiece or she can position them in the centre of the headpiece to fill it in and create more volume.

After the ceremony, Tristan can remove her veil and the hairpieces can stay in place or be restyled into a different configuration.

Easily one of the most loved wildflowers, there’s something endlessly inspiring by the majestic blue blooms that grow in the woods and English gardens in springtime. Rich in pollen and nectar, the bluebell flower has an elusive scent reminiscent of the hyacinth flower.  It’s no wonder the bluebell is commonly used in bridal bouquets and corsages.

We believe in the language of flowers and the dewy bluebell speaks to everlasting love, humility and constancy.

We looked to this delightful blue flowering stem as the perfect source of inspiration for our latest ‘Something Blue’ hair pin set.

Looking for your 'Something blue'?

The rhyme that often comes to mind when planning your wedding is the age old, ‘Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, a sixpence in your shoe’.  While a coin in your shoe wouldn’t be too comfortable, your ‘something blue’ also doesn’t need to look or feel out of place with the rest of your bridal look.

For lovers for deeper shades of blue, there’s a number of styles in our ‘something blue’ accessories collection that feature beautiful shades of empire blue. Our ARTEMIS, MAYBELLE, FONTAINE and LADY GREY are some of our popular styles for brides seeking that subtle and sophisticated ‘something blue’.

For brides seeking a pale shade of blue, the powder blue tones of the BLUEBELLS hair pin set blends beautifully against all hair colours and ivory or white wedding gowns. In designing these pins, we fell in love with the mineral – almost misty – tone of the crystal beads. Subtle, sweet and romantic, this shade of pale blue is a perfect match to soft gold or silver wiring.

One of the latest pieces off the workbench is a crystal hair piece for bride Frances. This delicate yet bold piece hints to the constellations with its celestial inspired details derived from our STELLAR hair pins. Appropriately titled ‘To the Moon and Back’, we were star struck by the beauty of the sparkly crystal elements which feel illuminating and beautifully decadent.

We adore how Frances’ headpiece makes opulence feel effortless.

Inspired by the stars above

This bewitching showstopper is a celebration of the stars and the moon in our night sky. It was handcrafted in shades of antique silver and soft silver crystal elements. The crystals were scattered and applied in various sizes and shapes in a beautifully organic way including navettes and round crystals.

The star-like details from our STELLAR pin set were artfully woven onto the vines, evoking an edgier vibe to our signature florals. Star-inspired motifs blur the lines between floral and celestial accents which still beautifully complement floral motifs on lace wedding dresses or modern silhouettes.

Colourways

This piece can be made to order in silver tones (as pictured) or for a look that hints at a warmer colour palette, rose gold or gold wiring are also available. The crystals in silver tones pair beautifully with all metal finishes and creates an enchanting and celestial inspired feel to your bridal look.

One headpiece, two looks

We love to design pieces that can be worn in more than one way. While Frances’ headpiece was designed specifically to be worn at the back of her head to frame her wedding updo, it can also be styled along the hairline to one side for a second reception look.

To position the piece into place, your hairstylist will simply use bobby pins or hair pins across the teeth and under the hair to secure it into place.

We work with brides worldwide to bring their bridal visions to life. As our work is all designed and handcrafted in-house, all elements of our pieces can be customised to suit your wedding dress and hairstyle including length, width, details, colours and attachments.

This artfully arranged wedding hair comb is one of the latest bespoke pieces to leave the workbench for Saudi Arabian bride, Mariam. Inspired by the beauty of the PRIMROSE hair comb, this romantic piece has been reworked into a wider format to better suit her low set bridal updo.

This delightful comb has been infused with floral elements including a handcrafted clay rose, primrose flowers and dogwood blooms.

We love the organic nature of this floral display and the cascading arrangement of blooms and buds amongst pearl sprays.

Styling Mariam's hair comb

Mariam will be styling her hair in a beautiful low set bun. A chic and sophisticated hairstyle that needed a little detail to the side to complete her bridal look.

For a second look, Mariam can position the comb to the side of loose waves – think Old Hollywood style waves, gently swept to one side.

A classic and chic colour palette

A silver and ivory colour palette is the epitome of classic bridal styling. The silver tones feel clean and sophisticated with the soft ivory tones a beautiful accompaniment to wedding dresses from off-white to warm ivory. We also love the luxurious tones of the pearl sprays which add a natural shimmer.

This piece for Mariam can be reworked in pale gold and ivory tones if you’d prefer a warmer colour palette.  The soft champagne tones feels equal parts enchanting and inviting.

There’s something about the HELENA bridal headpiece which feels wildly feminine and enchanting. It could be its long vine-line silhouette, or the fact that it’s bursting with florals at various stages of bloom. We love its carefree styling that was inspired by the beauty of wildflowers – like freshly picked flowers woven into loose romantic hair.

Our inspiration

The loveliest bride Christina fell in love with our HELENA and was seeking variations to it to better suit her bridal look. Christina loved its detailing but wanted it in a soft blush, almost champagne, tone with more ivory tones scattered across it. Her vision matched our aesthetic and we too have a love for muted blush tones.

We tossed around a few ideas and settled on a headpiece which brought together the soft pinkish tones of the CHERRY BLOSSOM hair piece set on the silhouette of the HELENA.

We brought to life her vision by softening the gold tones with a champagne enamel finish which created a silvery shimmer. The muted metal colour palette feels intriguing and enchanted and we love how it reflects the light in the most beautiful way. The soft ombre effect feels luxurious, warm and inviting.

How to style this champagne bridal headpiece

Christina’s headpiece is designed to be worn at the back of the head to create a dramatic entrance as she walks down the aisle.

Its length and style means it can also be worn along the hairline too if she’d like the option of a second bridal look for the reception.  It’s a truly romantic and feminine piece that sets the mood for a magical wedding day.

Considering a custom headpiece or veil?

We work with brides worldwide to bring to life their bridal vision. No two brides are the same and we feel that there’s no one-size-fits-all headpiece.

On the Eve is a symphony of wildly romantic and feminine details in luxurious shades of antique rose and silver tones. We had the honour of designing and crafting this blush bridal headpiece for bride Clara for her wedding day.

A pink colour palette has come a long way within the bridal industry. Once a pastel or baby pink, modern wedding gowns are now available in exquisite shades of nude, pale blush and peachy blush tones. These muted shades feel effortless, enchanted and utterly romantic.

A bespoke blush bridal headpiece for Clara

The loveliest bride Clara loved the shape and dimension of our EMILIE headpiece and equally loved the detailing of the ODE TO DUSK comb. The combination of these two styles came together beautifully and we loved the process of blending her favourite details.

The beauty of her bespoke headpiece not only in the details but also its versatility with styling. Clara’s comb features a split combs so it can be easily styled with a veil for a seamless look.

As the On the Eve headpiece features antique silver and sparkly crystal elements, we love to pair it with the MORNING MIST wedding veil but would also style nicely with almost all veils from our wedding veil collection.
