By selecting bridal headpieces that enhance your natural features, you can create a bridal look that feels harmonious and flattering.

Finding the right bridal accessories is more than just matching details to your dress. The right bridal headpiece will accentuate your finer features and bring together your bridal look in a way that feels effortless and polished.

There’s a bridal headpiece to suit every face shape from wedding crowns, delicate halos to more traditional bridal hair combs. It’s easy to fall in love with an exquisite headpiece or crown but what if it doesn’t suit your face shape?  We share our guide to help you choose the best bridal headpiece and accessories based on your face shape.

1. Oval face shape

An oval face shape features balanced proportions, slightly wider forehead and a gently rounded chin.  Think Jessica Biel, Kate Middleton or Kim Kardashian. Ovals are one of the most versatile face shapes of all which means they can pull off any look from the modern french knot to long loose waves. The goal is to enhance your natural symmetry.

The best bridal headpieces for an oval face will add height and draw attention to your balanced features, creating a regal look.

  • Simple or embellished headbands work well, whether worn across the forehead or higher up on the head.
  • A flower crown adds softness and can be worn in various placements without disrupting he natural balance of your face.
  • Emphasis your cheekbones and jawline with elegant drop or chandelier earrings.
  • A variety of veil lengths work well with an oval face, including fingertip, cathedral or birdcage veils.

2. Round face shape

A round face shape is one that’s widest at the cheeks, with a rounded jawline and often with a shorter forehead and chin. The aim is to elongate the face and add definition.

A round shape is full with a rounded chin and hair-line as seen with Emma Stone, Kirsten Dunst and Cameron Diaz.

The best bridal headpieces and accessories for round face shapes will add height and vertical lines are ideal.

  • Choose a tiara or crown with a slight peak to add height and create the illusion of a longer face.
  • Placing a decorative comb or pin to one side of your hair can create asymmetry, breaking up the roundness of your face.
  • A narrow headband worn slightly back on the head can add vertical lines without adding width.
  • Avoid a piece with too much fullness at the sides, so a large flower behind your ear probably isn’t the best option.
  • A veil positioned at the top of the head will elongate your face. Choose a veil with gathering at the comb to create volume and height. A longer veil will add length to your silhouette, which can help balance a round face shape.
  • Long, dangling earrings help elongate the face, drawing the eye downward.

3. Square face shape

A square face shape features a strong jawline, broad forehead, and straight sides, with the width of the face similar at the forehead, cheeks and jawline. The goal is to soften the strong angles of the face and create a more rounded appearance.

If you’re looking for square faces in the celebrity world, look no further than Kylie Jenner, Selena Gomez, Jennifer Aniston or Keira Knightley.

The best bridal headpieces and accessories for a square face shape include:

  • A tiara with soft curves or a low profile can soften the angles of the forehead.
  • A delicate, floral or jewelled headband that sits just above the forehead can create a softer, more rounded look.
  • An asymmetrical headpiece, such as a comb or pin worn to one side, can break up the symmetry of a square face and add a touch of softness.
  • Hoop or teardrop earrings can help soften the jawline and add curves, balancing the strong angles of the face.
  • A veil with lace or beaded edges can add softness around the face, while a cascading veil that starts lower on the head can create a more gentle frame for the face.

4. Heart face shape

A heart face shape features a wider forehead, high cheekbones and a narrow, pointy chin. For heart shaped faces, the goal is to balance the wider forehead with the narrower chin, creating a harmonious look.

Katie Holmes, Zendaya, Miranda Kerr and Reese Witherspoon are perfect examples of heart shaped faces.

  • Styles that can help reduce the width of the forehead and bring balance to the face.
  • Accessories placed to the side, such as side combs or hair pins, can draw attention away from the forehead and focus on the cheekbones and eyes.
  • A delicate hair vine that wraps around the head and dips slightly on the forehead can create a balanced, romantic look.
  • Teardrop or chandelier earrings can add fullness to the lower part of the face, balancing the pointed chin.
  • A veil that starts lower on the head, such as a fingertip or elbow length veil, can soften the look of a heart shaped face without emphasising he forehead.

5. Long or rectangular face shape

A rectangular face is longer than it is wide, with a straight, elongated jawline, and a similar width at the forehead and cheeks. The goal is to create width and reduce the appearance of length. Headpieces that add volume and horizontal lines work well.

Sarah Jessica Parker and Gisele Bundchen are excellent examples.

  • A headpiece or tiara that adds volume at the crown can balance the width of the cheekbones.

  • A hair vine that drapes along the sides of the head can soften the angles and add width where needed.
  • Earrings that add width at the jawline help balance the face by drawing attention away from the cheekbones.

Spring is the season of renewal, blooming flowers and fresh beginnings. We can't think of a better season to draw inspiration for romantic wedding hair pieces.

With springtime finally upon us, we’ve seen some beautiful warm days and blossoming trees around our city.  For brides planning a spring wedding, the choice of hair accessories can perfectly capture the essence of this vibrant time of year. From delicate floral bridal hair pins to enchanting hair vines, spring-inspired wedding hair pieces add a touch of romance and whimsy to your bridal look. In this post, we’ll explore some of our favourite spring-inspired hair accessories for the romantic bride, along with styling tips and practical advice to ensure you look and feel your best on your big day.

1. Floral bridal hair pins

Floral bridal hair pins are a spring bride’s best friend. They’re delicate, versatile, and can be scattered throughout your hairstyle for a whimsical, garden-inspired look.

Styling tips:

  • Floral hair pins work beautifully in loose, tousled wavs or a relaxed updo. Place them strategically throughout your hair to create a natural, scattered look. You can also use them to accentuate a braid or twist.
  • If you’re looking to wear a wedding veil, finish the look with some scattered flowers to the sides or along the top to conceal the veil’s comb. The look is ethereal, romantic and classic. After the ceremony, you can simply remove the veil and the hair flowers can stay in place.
  • If you’re using fresh flowers, make sure they’re hardy and won’t wilt throughout the day.

2. Floral bridal tiaras and crowns

For a look that’s the ultimate in boho-chic, floral bridal tiaras and crowns are perfect for spring brides seeking a regal touch to their bridal look.

Styling tips:

  • Wear your bridal tiara with loose waves or soft curls for a romantic, bohemian look. If you prefer a more structured hairstyle, a low chignon or braided updo also pairs beautifully with tiaras and crowns.
  • Elevate the look with drop earrings or wedding studs that accentuate the spring-inspired details in your headpieces. Pearl drop earrings or floral bridal earrings featuring similar details are the perfect accompaniment.

3. Floral bridal headpieces

Hair vines and floral bridal headpieces are delicate, flexible accessories that can be worn at the back of your hair for a truly enchanting look. They’re perfect for framing your wedding veil and adding a touch of sparkle and whimsy to your bridal hairstyle.

Styling tips:

  • Curve your bridal headpiece around your bridal bun, whether centred or asymmetrical to one side.
  • Ensure your headpiece is secured by using bobby pins to anchor it in place. If you’re planning to wear a veil, choose a headpiece that is proportional to the width and style of your wedding veil comb for a seamless finish.

4. Butterfly hair pieces

For a touch of springtime whimsy, butterfly motifs are a charming choice. They ad a playful, fairytale element to your bridal look, perfect for a spring garden wedding.

Styling tips:

  • A delicate butterfly bridal comb at the back of your head will feel dreamy and ethereal. Opt for soft blue tones for the perfect something blue.
  • For something a little more subtle, butterfly motifs on your bridal earrings can feel enchanting and romantic.

A modern bride's guide to styling delicate bridal hair pins for a chic wedding look.

In the realm of bridal fashion, it’s often the smallest details that make the most significant impact. Whether it’s buttons on a wedding dress, detailed lacework or fine beading. When it comes to bridal accessories, delicate bridal hair pins are a perfect example of this, offering a subtle yet stunning way to enhance your wedding day look.

We love to recommend bridal hair pin sets to brides who want versatility with styling or where their wedding gown just needs a little detail to complete their bridal look.

1. The appeal of bridal hair pins

It’s fair to say, the appeal of small bridal hair pins lie in their ability to combine timeless elegance with modern simplicity. They can offer a delicate, understated beauty that can capture the mood and vibe of your wedding dress without overpowering it.  Their petite size makes them perfect for brides who prefer a more minimalist aesthetic.

Their smaller and dainty size allows them to be placed anywhere in the hair—whether tucked into a bun, scattered through loose waves, or accenting a braid—adding just the right amount of detail.

2. A nod to tradition

Smaller hair pins have classic appeal, often evoking a sense of timelessness, reminiscent of vintage and traditional bridal styles. They can subtly reference classic bridal looks while still feeling fresh and modern.

The heirloom potential of hair pins means they can become cherished keepsakes, passed down through the generations as a nod to tradition.

3. Best bridal hairstyles for hair pins

Bridal hair pins are light and comfortable, making them an effortless addition to any hairstyle. They’re easy to place and adjust, allowing brides to seamlessly integrate them into any hairstyle, achieving a polished look without much fuss.

In line with the “less is more” philosophy, small hair pins add just the right amount of detail to a bridal look, embodying a kind effortless beauty that feels both intentional and natural.

A single hair pin with beautiful details can look just as striking as a cluster of pins. Despite the small size of the hair pins, they can be beautifully embellished and adorned in a range of different components for a natural, romantic look.

Bridal updos: They style perfectly in updos and bridal buns: around the base of the updo, along the side or across the top.

Bridal braids: Weave hair pins into the braid or place them at the end for a bohemian-inspired finish.

Half up hairstyles: For a romantic and whimsical look, use hair pins along the contours of a half up hairstyle. These will add a beautiful focal point to soft waves and curls.

Side-swept hairstyles: Pinning back one side of your hair and adorning the section with hair pins creates a striking asymmetrical look. Perfect for Hollywood inspired looks or garden weddings.

4. Grip and hold

Bridal hair pins are likely to fall out if they’re not secured into place with additional bobby pins. Using bobby pins in a colour that matches your hair colour, pin the hair pin down with a bobby pin discreetly beneath the hair. This will ensure your hair pieces will stay in place if you’re planning to have an active day with lots of dancing.

5. Tips for choosing the perfect bridal hair pins

When choosing bridal hair pins for your wedding day, it’s important to consider your wedding theme and dress. Pearl or floral hair pins pair beautifully with vintage or romantic themes, whilst minimalist pins are great for modern weddings.

A trial run with your hairstylist is always a good idea before your wedding. This is an opportunity to talk to your bridal hairstylist and discuss how the pins will work with it. Your hairstylist will be able to discuss how they can be secured into your hair and how they will sit along side other accessories, such as your wedding veil.

We explore how to perfectly style your side swept hairstyle with wedding hair combs.

Choosing the right hairstyle and accessories for your wedding day is a crucial part of your bridal look. A side swept hairstyle paired with a bridal hair comb is an elegant and timeless choice. However, there are several factors to consider to ensure that this combination enhances your overall appearance and stays secure through your big day. Here are some important considerations for brides when choosing a side swept hairstyle and wearing a bridal hair comb.

1. Face shape and hair type

Consider your face shape when choosing a side swept bridal hairstyle. This style is particularly flattering for oval, heart and square face shapes as it softens angles and highlights your best features.

Think about your hair type and texture. Side swept styles work well with various hair types, but the technique may vary and extra support might be needed to secure hair accessories into place.

2. Dress style and neckline

Your hairstyle should complement the style of your wedding dress. Side swept hair works beautifully with dresses that have detailed backs, asymmetrical designs or one shoulder necklines.

3. Wedding veils and accessories

If you plan to wear a veil, think about how it will work with your side swept hairstyle and hair comb. Ensure the veil can be securely attached without interfering with the placement of the comb.

Coordinate your hair comb with other bridal accessories such as earrings, necklaces and bracelets. As one ear will be on full display, ensure they complement each other in terms of colour, style and embellishments.

4. Hair length and volume

Side swept hairstyles can be achieved with different hair lengths, but the approach may vary. Extensions can be used for added length and volume if needed.

Consider the volume of your hair. You may need to add volume with styling products or backcombing, especially if your hair is fine or flat.

5. Securing the hairstyle

Your side swept hair will need to be secured into place before any adornments are added to it. A bridal hair comb is simply pinned into an already set hairstyle, rather than the comb holding the hairstyle in place.

We recommend brides have a hair trial with their stylists to test the security of the hairstyle and the placement of the hair comb. Make adjustments as needed to ensure everything stays in place.

6. Comfort and practicality

Your hairstyle should be comfortable and not cause any discomfort throughout the day. Ensure the hair comb and other accessories are not too heavy or tight.

Consider the practicality of your hairstyle for different parts of the day, including the ceremony, photos and reception. Make sure it’s a style you can easily manage and maintain.

Knowing how to properly secure a metal hair comb is key to ensuring it stays in place throughout your special day.

Have you ever wondered how to make a metal hair comb stay in your hair?  Do you have a hairstyle where combs just seem to fall right out? Whether you’re planning to tuck a bridal hair comb into an updo, a half-up style or loose waves, knowing how to secure a comb is key to ensuring it stays in place. We share our tips on how to best secure a comb in your hair, complete with styling advice to help you achieve a flawless look.

Step 1: Choose the right comb for your hairstyle

Before you begin, it’s important to choose a bridal hair comb that complements your hairstyle.

  • For updos: A smaller, delicate comb works well for intricate updos, while a larger, more ornate comb can add drama and elegance.
  • For half up styles: A medium sized comb is ideal for half up styles as it will sit comfortably in the middle of your hairstyle. Look for designs that balance the volume and texture of your hair.
  • For loose waves: Consider a lightweight, less elaborate comb that won’t pull on your hair or feel too heavy. A side comb is a perfect option for loose waves and Hollywood-inspired looks.

Step 2: Prep your hair

Preparing your hair properly is crucial for ensuring the comb stays securely in place. We recommend these 3 methods to ensure your comb stays securely in place.

  1. The Tease: Also known as backcombing, this method involves lifting a layer of hair and gently teasing the underside with a fine tooth comb. It adds security to the security of hair where you plan to place the comb. It creates a cushioned base for the comb to sit and provides extra hold. Lower your section of hair and use bobby pins across the teeth of the comb to secure it into place.
  2. Elastic bands: If you have short hair, your hairstylist may use small clear elastic bands to create miniature ponytails in the area where you intend to position the comb. The tiny ponytails are best hidden beneath a section of hair. Once you’ve created a little row of elastic bands, gently nestle the teeth of the comb into the little bands and reinforce with bobby pins.
  3. The Pincurl: Gather a small amount of hair where you would like the comb to sit. Twirl it around your fingers to create a little curl an then pin it to your head with two bobby pins in an X shape. A little hair spray will fix it into position and then nestle your comb behind the bobby pins.

3. Position the comb

The placement of your bridal hair comb will depend on your hairstyle and the look you want to achieve.

  • Updos: For a classic updo, position the comb above or to the side of your bridal bun or chignon. If you’re going for a more modern or bohemian look, try placing it at the base of a low bun or at an angle.
  • Half up hairstyles: Insert the comb where the top section of your hair meets the lower section. This will help blend the comb into your style while keeping it secure.
  • Loose waves: Tuck the comb into the side of your head, above your ear or at the back where your hair naturally falls. Ensure that the comb isn’t too heavy, as tis can cause it to slip out of place.

4. Insert the comb

Now that your hair is prepped and you’ve decided on the placement, it’s time to secure the comb.

  • Hold the hair in place: Use your fingers to hold the section of hair where you’ll insert the comb. If you’ve backcombed this section, be gentle to avoid flattening the teased hair.
  • Insert the comb backward: Start by inserting the comb into your hair with the teeth pointing in the opposite direction of where you want the comb to sit. I.e. if you want the comb to face downward, insert it upward.
  • Flip and secure: Once the comb is partially inserted, gently flip it in the direction you want it to face. This flipping motion will help anchor the teeth of the comb into your hair, securing it in place.

5. Add extra security

To ensure your comb stays put throughout the day, consider these extra steps:

  • Use bobby pins: Slide a couple of bobby pins over the teeth of the comb, securing them in place. Choose bobby pins that match your hair colour for a seamless look.
  • Hairspray:  Use a light mist of hairspray to set your hairstyle and add extra hold.

Styling tips

  • Heavy headpieces will need a solid foundation to stay in place.  These may be better supported by upstyles or half up hairstyles.
  • If your comb is made from plastic, it may be more difficult to hold the comb in place with bobby pins. Small alligator hair clips might be useful.
  • These techniques can be used for hair pins, halos and similar accessories.
  • If you’re looking to change your hair accessories during the course of your wedding day (i.e. remove your wedding veil after the ceremony), be sure to take notes on how the comb was been secured so you don’t mess up your bridal hairstyle trying to remove it. Ask your bridesmaids for help looking for the bobby pins before the comb is pulled out.

Enhance your minimalist bridal look with strategically placed wedding hair pins. We share styling tips on how to style them with a veil to add a touch of elegance without compromising on simplicity.

Styling wedding hair pins for a chic and fuss-free bridal look is all about embracing simplicity with an elegant twist. Here’s how to achieve a look that’s both refined and effortlessly beautiful.

1.Select the perfect wedding hair pins

Possibly the most difficult step considering how many beautiful wedding hair pieces are out there, but we recommend opting for hair pins that exude subtle sophistication. Think delicate pearls and flowers, subtle crystal elements and sleek metallic elements. These pins add just the right touch of glamour without overpowering your hairstyle.

Ensure your wedding hair pins align with your wedding theme. For a classic and timeless vibe, choose smooth and polished designs, such as clusters of pearls. If your wedding leans toward boho or rustic, opt for organic shapes like floral motifs or leafy designs.

Your wedding hair pins should enhance, not compete with, your veil. If your veil is heavily embellished or features intricate lace, opt for simple, understated pins. On the other hand, if your veil is minimal or sheer, you can be more adventurous with bolder, more decorative pins.

2. Master the art of placement

Place your hair pins thoughtfully to enhance your hairstyle’s natural beauty. Tuck a pin behind the ear, at the base of a low bun, or a long the curve of a braid for a refined yet effortless look.

Embrace the ‘less is more’ philosophy. A few strategically placed pins can create a more striking impact that an array scattered throughout your hair.

Depending on the style of your veil and the overall look, you can place hair pins either above or below the veil. If you want the veil to be the focal point as you walk down the aisle, position the hair pins underneath the veil, closer to the nape of your neck.

For a modern and asymmetrical look, consider placing the hair pins on one side of your head. This works well if you have a side part or if you hairstyle is designed to sweep to one side. The veil can then be placed at the back, allowing the pins to stand out without interference.

3. Align with your hairstyle

A low chignon or sleek bun paired with a couple of tastefully chosen hair pins creates a look that is both timeless and effortlessly elegant—ideal for the modern bride.

For those who prefer to wear their hair down in soft waves, use hair pins to gently sweep sections away from your face. This approach adds a touch of romance while maintaining a relaxed, effortless aesthetic.

For half up, half down styles, secure the top section of your hair with a few delicate hair pins. This style merges the elegance of an updo with the relaxed feel of loose hair, offering the perfect balance for a laid-back yet polished bridal look.

4. Ensure they're secure

To keep your pins in place throughout the bridal festivities, ensure they’re securely fastened. Fine hair may benefit from a bit of texture spray to prevent slipping and reinforced with additional bobby pins. This will prevent slipping and keep everything in place. Bobby pins can also be used to secure the veil in place, particularly if the veil is lightweight or made on a small hair comb.

If your veil is attached to a comb, place the comb into your hairstyle first, then position he hair pins around it. This ensures the veil stays in place while allowing the pins to serve as an additional decorative element.

A pre-wedding hair trial is essential to ensure your chosen hair pins stay put and look as envisioned. This also gives you the chance to make any necessary tweaks for a flawless final look.

5. Coordinate with other accessories

Choose hair pins that complement your other bridal accessories, such as your bridal earrings and necklace. Aim for a harmonious look by selecting pieces that share similar design motifs and aesthetic.

Also consider what your hair will look like after your remove the veil. If you plan to remove the veil for the reception, consider how your hair pins will look without it. Ensure that your hairstyle still appears polished and that the pins remain an elegant feature of your look.

Consider the option of layering accessories for a multi-dimensional and personalised look. You can layer multiple hair pins with your veil to create a more intricate design. For example, a delicate hair vine can be placed above the veil, with smaller pins scattered throughout for added detail.
