An Evening in Florence

Yasmin came to us after having worked with another bridal designer on a floral bridal headpiece.

At Tania Maras, we understand that your wedding day is one of the most important moments of your life, and every detail from your dress to your accessories, should be nothing short of perfection. Unfortunately, not every bride’s journey is smooth, and we occasionally meet brides who come to us after having worked with another bridal accessories designer who didn’t meet their expectations.

While it’s disheartening to hear that a bride’s experience wasn’t as magical as it should have been, we see these moments as an opportunity to help make things right. Here’s how we approach these situations and how we work to turn disappointment into joy.

Understanding the bride's vision

One of the first steps we take when a bride comes to us after a less-than-ideal experience with another designer is to truly listen. We want to understand her vision, her concerns, and what specifically went wrong with the previous design. Whether it was a lack of communication, a misunderstanding of her style, or a final product that didn’t match her expectations, we take the time to dig deep into what she’s looking for. By asking the right questions and listening carefully, we ensure we’re fully aligned with her vision from the very beginning.

Redefining expectations

Sometimes, a bride’s previous experience may have left her feeling uncertain or hesitant. Our goal is to rebuild her confidence and help her see that the perfect accessories are within reach. We take this opportunity to redefine expectations, both hers and ours.

We work collaboratively with the bride, involving her along the design process by sharing images, descriptions and the option of final adjustments. We make sure she feels in control and confident that the end result will be how she envisaged.

Craftsmanship and personalised service

One of the reasons brides turn to us after a disappointing experience is because they value the high level of craftsmanship and quality that Tania Maras is known for. Before any piece leaves our studio, it undergoes rigorous quality checks to ensure it meets our exacting standards.

We aim to make the entire design experience as positive and stress-free as possible. By focusing on what went wrong in her previous experience, we can ensure that we avoid those pitfalls and deliver a result that she’ll love.

Yasmin's custom floral bridal headpiece

We were so grateful when Yasmin reached out to us. After sharing her situation with us, Yasmin sent us examples of inspiration images that appealed to her (including photos from her first attempt so we knew what she didn’t want) and together we shared thoughts on how to bring this vision to life. We drew inspiration from our Franca floral crown and reimagined it into an exquisite floral bun wrap that will create a beautiful focal point to her bridal look.

As Yasmin was in a hurry, we prioritised her order with an expedited production time. After approval photos were sent and given the all clear, her headpiece was beautifully packaged and sent her via Express Post with time to spare before her special day.

The final reveal

A very special thank you to Yasmin for sharing these photos with us from her wedding day. We are absolutely in love with these photos! We love how she paired her floral headpiece with her wedding gown. A truly breathtaking bridal look.

Timeless bridal hair accessories will enhance your bridal look, and can become heirloom-worthy accessories that can be passed down.

The art of choosing timeless bridal hair accessories lies in selecting pieces that enhance your natural beauty, complement your wedding theme, and resonate with your personal style. Opting for a timeless look doesn’t mean your pieces can’t capture your personality and your personal style. Here’s how to choose hair accessories that will stand the test of time and remain beautiful mementos of your special day.

1. Classic styles don't go out of style

When it comes to timeless bridal styling, classic styles are key. Traditional bridal hair accessories such as tiaras, combs and hair pins, have adorned brides for generations. Their enduring appeal lies in their simplicity and versatility, making them suitable for various hairstyles and wedding themes.

If you’re looking to incorporate some personality into a classic tiara or hair pin, consider bringing a sentimental detail into the piece such as a specific flower or gemstone.

The art of choosing timeless bridal hair accessories comes down to a focus on quality, thoughtful design, beautiful timeless details and sentimental designs that have meaning to you.

2. Incorporate pearls, crystals, flowers and lace

Many of the timeless looks in history feature pearls, crystals, flowers and fine lacework. They are synonymous with bridal beauty and elegance. Their timeless appeal and ability to complement various bridal looks make them popular choices for hair accessories and veils.

Shop this look: FLORES floral crown, EVELEIGH bridal headpiece, DANTE bridal earrings, FREYA bridal headpiece

3. Consider your wedding dress and bridal hairstyle

Your bridal hair accessories should harmonise with your wedding dress and hairstyle. Match embellishments and details of your dress with your adornments. For example, if your dress features lace or beadwork, choose accessories with similar elements.

Your hairstyle plays a very important role in setting the style of your overall look. Updos are a beautiful foundation for tiaras and combs, while loose wavs or half-up hairstyles pair well with bridal hair pins and headbands.

3. Personalise your look with sentimental pieces

Incorporating sentimental details into your bridal hair accessories adds a personal touch and makes them more meaningful. Wearing a family heirloom, such as a vintage hair comb or pin, adds a sentimental and timeless element. It’ss a beautiful way to honour family traditions and carry a piece of your heritage with you.

Consider custom-made accessories that reflect your personal style and story. Whether it’s incorporating your favourite colour or a design inspired by your heritage, customised pieces are unique and timeless.

4. Reflect your wedding theme

While timeless accessories often lean towards classic styles, they can still reflect your wedding them without compromising elegance.

For vintage style weddings, opt for accessories with antique-finishes, such as antique silver tones. Details like filigree or art deco patterns are classic elements within history.

If your wedding has a bohemian vibe, consider flower crowns or accessories with natural elements.

For a modern, minimalist look, choose sleek and simple accessories. A set of pearl hair pins or a thin crystal headband can add just the right amount of detail without taking away from the beauty of your look.

There's very few opportunities in life when you can wear a crown.

A wedding crown is more than just a beautiful accessory; it’s a symbol of the regal elegance and timeless beauty that every bride embodies on her special day. Whether you’ve been dreaming of a fairytale wedding or simply want to add a touch of luxury to your bridal look, the right wedding crown can make all the difference.

With so many styles and options available, choosing the perfect wedding crown can feel overwhelming. In this post, we’ll guide you through the key factors to consider when selecting your crown, ensuring you find the perfect piece to complement your style and make you feel like royalty.

1. Understanding different styles of wedding crowns

Wedding crowns come in a variety of styles, each offering a unique aesthetic.

  • Classic tiara: A traditional choice, a tiara is often a small and dainty piece featuring crystals, pearls or gemstones. They evoke a timeless elegance and capture a princess-like aesthetic.
  • Floral crowns: Floral crowns can be constructed from fresh or faux flowers, creating a romantic and bohemian vibe. They are ideal for garden or outdoor weddings with their free-spirited detailing.
  • Wedding crowns: Wedding crowns and tiaras are terms that are often used interchangeably. Generally speaking, crowns are larger in size.

Your wedding dress plays a crucial role in determining the best crown style for you.

  • Embellished dresses: If your dress features a lot of detail or embellishments, opt for a simpler crown to avoid details clashing. A minimalist tiara with simple details works beautifully with embellished dresses as it will complement your dress without overpowering it.
  • Simple dresses: For a more understated gown, an ornate crown will add a pop of interest and drama to elevate your look.
  • Dress neckline: The neckline is an important detail which will influence your choice in crown. High necklines work well with simpler crowns. Strapless or off-the-shoulder dresses can accommodate more elaborate designs. Plunging necklines work well with crowns with peaks.

When it comes to styling your bridal look, referring back to your mood board is important to ensure your choices stay true to your original vision. The theme and setting of your wedding will be an important consideration to ensure you achieve the vibe you’re after.

  • Fairytale or royal theme: Classic tiaras with delicate and dainty detailing, featuring crystals or pearls, are a beautiful way to capture regality and a traditional spirit.
  • Bohemian and garden weddings: Floral crowns or vintage-inspired pieces will complement the relaxed and romantic vibe of these settings.
  • Modern weddings: Sleek and minimalist crowns will add a contemporary edge to your bridal look. Look for an unexpected take on the classics with baroque, keishi or smooth pearls or angular details.

Your wedding crown should perfectly frame your hair and face so your chosen hairstyle will be an important consideration.

  • Bridal updos: Wedding crowns pair beautifully with updos, providing a stable base for the headpiece to rest.
  • Loose hair or waves: Floral crowns and lightweight tiaras complement loose flowing hairstyles, adding a touch of softness and romance to your look.
  • Braids: Braided bridal hairstyles and crowns will create a textured and intricate look. Perfect for whimsical weddings.

We always notice that the moment a wedding crown is placed on a bride, she will walk with her head high with a confidence that only she knows.  It’s important to ensure your crown fits well and is secured in place. We recommend bobby pins or hair combs to secure the crown into your hair. Your hairstylist will be able to help you with the fitting to ensure it stays in place throughout the day.

Bride Pauline was in touch with us last year about commissioning a floral wedding headpiece for her wedding. Her ceremony and reception will be set in Old Westbury, Long Island in the USA, and she was after a headpiece that was a natural extension of her bridal aesthetic.

Pauline shared photos with us of her exquisite wedding gown, her half up hairstyle, and her favourite designs from our collection for inspiration.  And we swooned, oh how we swooned!

We see a lot of wedding dresses working with our brides. But the very moment we laid eyes on Pauline’s wedding dress we all gasped. Her chic gown burst with femininity, an abundance of lace details and an unforgettable silhouette featuring a full flowing skirt.

The inspiration

The FLORENCE headpiece was Pauline’s favourite from our collection. She sought a fuller headpiece in ivory, gold and subtle blush pink tones. Pauline loved the warmth of blush but didn’t want any dramatic pink elements, so we kept the blush tones to a minimum.

This floral wedding headpiece was inspired by the delicacy and beauty of baby’s breath and featured Pauline’s favourite elements from the Florence crown. While her headpiece is a full halo, we ensured it felt and looked lightweight whilst still bursting with floral elements.

How to style this floral headpiece

We love this crown because it suits perfectly imperfect loose curls, romantic updos and fuss free hair. This headpiece was designed to fit the circumference of Pauline’s head, and also allows for volume for when her hair is professionally styled. It secures to the hair with bobby pins which can be easily threaded through the loops at the ends of this headpiece.

This headpiece can be worn with or without a wedding veil. Pauline will be wearing our DAHLIA chapel veil on her wedding day so we ensured they would fit snuggling and seamlessly together.

If you love this crown, or if you would love a wedding headpiece custom made just for you, get in touch. Let’s create something beautiful.

Shaylee and Mitchell’s wedding day was a fun and colourful celebration of love, topped off with a scoop of nostalgia. Along with the charming chapel ceremony and reception held in a barn, there were also lawn games, live music and a gelato cart as part of the wedding day festivities. Surrounded by family and friends and the beautiful Gold Coast hinterland, Shaylee sparkled wearing her crystal and pearl FLEUR crown and an elegant, off the shoulder lace gown.

Goin' to the chapel

The ceremony, reception and all those fun activities took place at Summergrove Estate, a picturesque wedding venue on the NSW Tweed Coast.

“We chose Summergrove Estate as our venue because it is stunning yet simplistic, which is exactly our style. It is set on this incredible hillside and the view speaks for itself really! It’s actually the only venue we looked at and we couldn’t go past the beautiful, white chapel and barn. It was just perfect!” says Shaylee.

Love at first Sight

Shaylee always knew she was going to wear the FLEUR crown, even before she decided on her dress or hairstyle!

“Before I went dress shopping, I found the Tania Maras Instagram page while searching for inspiration for my look and instantly fell in love with the FLEUR crown when I saw it! I knew I wanted to wear this crown and make it the sparkly, special ‘something new’ for my day and based my hairstyle and all of my other accessories around this piece.”

For hair styling, Shaylee decided on a low ponytail with effortless curls and a single layer, cathedral length, tulle veil.

“I felt so beautiful while wearing FLEUR and now she is a heirloom and keepsake to wear on special occasions or milestones. So much love obviously goes into designing such delicate, handcrafted accessories.”

Special Moments

One of the most memorable and emotional moments for Shaylee was when she was wedding dress shopping with one of her bridesmaids and mum. She tried on a beautiful off the shoulder gown with a champagne undertone and intricate, ivory lace.

“My bridesmaid told me to try a dress on that she picked off the rack. I wasn’t really a fan of it but tried it on for fun anyway. As the attendant buttoned me up, I realised that it was seriously beautiful and ‘so me!’ I walked out of the changeroom and for the first time that day, my mum got a tear in her eye and I think I knew then that it was the one”.

The ceremony was held in the white chapel which has a glass window offering dramatic ocean and valley views. During the ceremony, the celebrant asked them to turn around and take in the scenery while making a wish for the future.

“That moment really allowed us to be present and the photo of that will forever remind us of our vows, our wish and our special ceremony.”

The couple organised to have a gelato cart for them and their guests to enjoy. There were three different flavours on the menu: lemon custard and strawberry (Shaylee’s favourite), watermelon (Mitchell’s favourite) and crowd pleaser, Ferrero Rocher.

“This was a must-have for our day as Mitchell and I both love ice cream! It was a massive hit with our guests and added to the fun, easy going, colourful vibe we wanted”.

Best Advice

“My biggest piece of advice for a couple planning their wedding would be to not sweat the small stuff. You are planning a day to celebrate your love for one another and that’s the most important thing. Have fun, compromise, don’t spend outside of your means and keep some sort of spreadsheet of what you have booked, paid for and when your bills are due (this is seriously a lifesaver). Just have fun and I promise you that your wedding day will feel perfect, whatever happens, and you truly will have the best day of your life.”

SPECIAL THANKS TO…

Just outside Winnipeg in Canada’s scenic Manitoba region, lies Pineridge Hollow, a wedding venue set on acres of gardens, ponds and flowers. As her name suggests, Jasmine was attracted to this  setting for her special day. Jasmine and Joel’s ‘Romantic Garden’ wedding was all about creating a relaxed and wholesome day and spending quality time with their family and friends.

Jasmine glowed amongst the lush foliage, with her husband by her side, her beautiful smile and flowy lace and chiffon dress. She adorned her hair with our VERSE hair comb, the pearl and crystal sprigs and clay flowers added sparkle and echoed the picturesque surroundings.

Wedding traditions

As it was one of the few times both Jasmine and Joel’s family were together in the one place, they made a special effort to create a relaxed and enjoyable party, so that they had time to interact and catch up with loved ones.

“I wanted our family and friends to feel relaxed and enjoy their time with us. I never wanted strict timelines packed with bouquet tosses, garter tosses, or a million speeches (so we simply didn’t do them).” says Jasmine.

They pulled back on the formalities, but added cultural traditions to personalise their day.

“I’m Filipino, and it was important for me to include a traditional ceremony with the veil, candle, coins, and cord. Each item represents something in our marriage.”

Jasmine's bridal styling

An avid researcher, Jasmine always does the legwork before deciding on anything. And her wedding was no exception.

“For my wedding, my researching went into hypergear. Instagram was always a good place to find some inspiration and to see how other brides styled their looks. I found Tania Maras on Pinterest and it was the style I was striving to achieve, so I kind of just went from there. I absolutely adored all the styled shoots Tania did, from the dresses to the hairstyles. Something about it just seemed timeless and organic.”

Jasmine was attracted to her Truvelle dress because it was designed and made in Canada, she loved the lace bodice and skirt, plus it was super comfortable!

“All the other dresses I tried on felt too constricted, or were itchy, or too heavy. I was worried I’d be too self conscious in other dresses that were curve hugging. I loved A line skirts because they made me feel taller (although I should give up since my husband is 6’2”) and the skirt flowed so beautifully. My aunt told me after the ceremony, ‘this dress is so you!’ with a bright smile, and truthfully, it was. It was feminine and romantic, everything I was looking for.”

When it came to hair styling, Jasmine knew she needed an updo (to handle the hot and humid Canadian summer) and a Tania Maras headpiece was also a must.

“Tania had everything I was aiming for: the timeless, whimsical, delicate and feminine pieces were unlike any other I had seen before. I chose the VERSE because I knew it would be timeless (I wanted to find something that I was going to pass on through generations). I also wanted something that wasn’t too big either. It was honestly so hard for me to finally pick one that I liked the most because I wanted them all!”

Best Advice

“Things book up really fast where I’m from, so book the ‘big’ things first. We nailed down our venue and photographer first, because those were the biggest things for us. Joel was especially keen about finding the perfect photographer because, as he says, ‘the pictures are the only things that will last of our wedding’. In a day that goes by so fast, the pictures are our only window for us to precisely remember everything that happened.”

What happens when you fall in love with a few floral wedding headpieces and can’t decide which one to go for? Well, for US bride Tristan, she found herself in this exact situation when she discovered our CHERRY BLOSSOM set, and the MARION and the VERSAILLES headpieces.

When Tristan got in touch with her vision and predicament, we were instantly excited at the prospect of bringing together her favourite styles to create her perfect floral wedding headpiece. The styles she fell in love with all shared a number of common features: beautiful florals, an effortless regality and most importantly, their construction methods and aesthetics were similar which made it possible to bring her vision to life.

We believe that custom wedding accessories are just as important as having a wedding dress tailored and tweaked to suit your body shape and height. We all have different face shapes, hair thickness and types, and style, and we love to offer our brides the ability to tweak our designs so they are perfect for them.

Tristan's bridal look

Tristan had chosen an exquisite white wedding gown by Essence of Australia for her outdoor, garden wedding in Miami at a private Spanish style villa called Villa Woodbine.

Her bridal hairstyle is the epitome of style with hair mostly down and slightly pinned back with a boho style braid which she can tuck her veil into.

She shared pictures from her dress fitting of her wedding dress with her veil and we designed her hairpieces to take into account the width of her veil comb and the hairstyle she’d picked.

Combining a floral wedding headpiece with hair pins

The beauty of a larger headpiece and two matching pins is it will offer countless ways to style your hair. For Tristan, the larger floral headpiece is designed to frame her wedding veil and the two additional hair pins can be scattered as she pleases to add sense of whimsy. She can secure the pins at the ends of the piece to elongate the main headpiece or she can position them in the centre of the headpiece to fill it in and create more volume.

After the ceremony, Tristan can remove her veil and the hairpieces can stay in place or be restyled into a different configuration.

Fiona and Craig’s wedding ceremony took place in a twelfth-century church followed by a reception in a Renaissance castle. These historic locations were the ultimate spots to celebrate their love for each other and create the traditional Scottish wedding they dreamed of.

The wedding locations needed to be particularly beautiful to match Fiona’s grace and elegance. She ignored bridal trends and chose a look that reflected her personal style – a classic lace gown, with cap sleeves and sweetheart neckline. As Fiona loved the idea of wearing flowers in her hair, the SOMERSET headpiece was the perfect accessory, as it features an everlasting floral arrangement of clay flowers and pearl and crystal sprigs.

Historic locations

Edinburgh-based Fiona and Craig wanted their wedding to be relaxed and traditional and they wanted their guests to feel at home. They achieved this with their stunning venues and classic styling.

“We got married in a picturesque twelfth-century church which has family connections and is such a unique and meaningful place. Our reception took place at Winton Castle near Edinburgh which dates back to the year 1190,” says Fiona. “Our ceremony and reception venues both had a really warm ambience and romantic feel to them and all that was needed was some flowers and candles. Both locations were really stunning on their own – it made sense to let the beauty of the venues speak for themselves!”

Family is really important to us – Grandparents in particular. My husband Craig’s grandmother and grandfather were an important part of the day and we were absolutely delighted that his grandfather said a few words in the church on behalf of the rest of our grandparents, who are no longer with us. This was a really emotional and meaningful moment for us – there were certainly a few tears from our guests!”

The perfect dress

Fiona advises brides-to-be to take plenty of time to research and ponder potential dresses, to make sure what you’re buying is the right option for you.

“It is easy to make a purchase to tick something off your list but, in the end, I was really pleased I’d taken the time and care to be sure whatever I was buying was right for me,” says Fiona.

When choosing her dress, she knew she wanted a timeless style that was suitable for the warm May weather in Scotland. With a few tweaks, Fiona’s dress was customised to suit her style and the weather.

“I tried on a particular dress that had gorgeous long lace sleeves which I loved but had the potential to be a little too hot. The owner of the shop where I bought my dress cleverly tucked the long lace sleeves into the inside of the dress and then appeared with these gorgeous small pieces of lace that she draped over my shoulders and pinned into place. It just instantly worked and looked really fresh,” says Fiona. “The lace cap sleeves with the lace bodice worked so well with the plain silk organza skirt that was separated by a ribbon at the waist. It was everything I had in my head and they were even able to change the dress to include the v-shaped back that I was looking for.”

Somerset headpiece

In the lead up to her wedding, Fiona used her daily commute as an opportunity to browse through Pinterest and Instagram for bridal ideas.

“I kept coming across images of beautiful hairpieces and saved them all to a folder. I kept adding images for a few months when I had a spare few moments and when I came to actually check where the pieces were from, I realised that the vast majority were from the same designer, which is when I discovered Tania Maras! As soon as I visited the website, I knew that nothing else would compare,” says Fiona.

Fiona decided on the exquisite SOMERSET headpiece in silver tones, which features delicate blooms surrounded by pearls and crystal branches .

“I love flowers and really loved the idea of having flowers in my hair for the wedding. Once I had found Tania’s designs, I realised that I could have a hairpiece which had delicate flowers in it that I could keep forever. I actually bought my hairpiece before I found my wedding dress which I think says a lot! I love the idea that I can wear it for special occasions for years to come and that hopefully one day I will be able to pass it on.”

Best advice

“Everyone who gave us advice said the same thing – take the time to enjoy it, whatever happens! It is also a good idea to start making a list of ‘must-have’ wedding photos that you don’t want to miss, a month or so before the wedding. The day does go by so quickly so dance as much as you can and take a moment to watch everyone smiling and enjoying the wonderful day you have worked so hard on!”

Special Thanks to…

One of the latest pieces off the workbench is a crystal hair piece for bride Frances. This delicate yet bold piece hints to the constellations with its celestial inspired details derived from our STELLAR hair pins. Appropriately titled ‘To the Moon and Back’, we were star struck by the beauty of the sparkly crystal elements which feel illuminating and beautifully decadent.

We adore how Frances’ headpiece makes opulence feel effortless.

Inspired by the stars above

This bewitching showstopper is a celebration of the stars and the moon in our night sky. It was handcrafted in shades of antique silver and soft silver crystal elements. The crystals were scattered and applied in various sizes and shapes in a beautifully organic way including navettes and round crystals.

The star-like details from our STELLAR pin set were artfully woven onto the vines, evoking an edgier vibe to our signature florals. Star-inspired motifs blur the lines between floral and celestial accents which still beautifully complement floral motifs on lace wedding dresses or modern silhouettes.

Colourways

This piece can be made to order in silver tones (as pictured) or for a look that hints at a warmer colour palette, rose gold or gold wiring are also available. The crystals in silver tones pair beautifully with all metal finishes and creates an enchanting and celestial inspired feel to your bridal look.

One headpiece, two looks

We love to design pieces that can be worn in more than one way. While Frances’ headpiece was designed specifically to be worn at the back of her head to frame her wedding updo, it can also be styled along the hairline to one side for a second reception look.

To position the piece into place, your hairstylist will simply use bobby pins or hair pins across the teeth and under the hair to secure it into place.

This artfully arranged wedding hair comb is one of the latest bespoke pieces to leave the workbench for Saudi Arabian bride, Mariam. Inspired by the beauty of the PRIMROSE hair comb, this romantic piece has been reworked into a wider format to better suit her low set bridal updo.

This delightful comb has been infused with floral elements including a handcrafted clay rose, primrose flowers and dogwood blooms.

We love the organic nature of this floral display and the cascading arrangement of blooms and buds amongst pearl sprays.

Styling Mariam's hair comb

Mariam will be styling her hair in a beautiful low set bun. A chic and sophisticated hairstyle that needed a little detail to the side to complete her bridal look.

For a second look, Mariam can position the comb to the side of loose waves – think Old Hollywood style waves, gently swept to one side.

A classic and chic colour palette

A silver and ivory colour palette is the epitome of classic bridal styling. The silver tones feel clean and sophisticated with the soft ivory tones a beautiful accompaniment to wedding dresses from off-white to warm ivory. We also love the luxurious tones of the pearl sprays which add a natural shimmer.

This piece for Mariam can be reworked in pale gold and ivory tones if you’d prefer a warmer colour palette.  The soft champagne tones feels equal parts enchanting and inviting.
